FFA "GAME OF THE WEEK"
RAGE vs. GLADIATORS
March
6, 2010
  |
|
#1 Orlando
Rage vs #4 Bradenton Gladiators!
The Orlando Rage will travel to Bradenton
to face the Gladiators in a battle of division leaders
and a possible Alliance Bowl preview! This game has the
FFA's signature written all over it-boasting two of
minor leagues best squaring off against each other. It's
a regular season match up with a magnitude so great it
rivals the heralded Florida vs Florida State or Miami vs
Florida State. It's the monumental clash of two of the
most storied franchises meeting for the first time. All
eyes will be on the Orlando Rage who come in unblemished
looking to build upon their early season dominance. For
the Gladiators it's a chance to prove that they belong
back at the top of the FFA's elite after a surprising
loss to the St Pete Sharks.
Only
in the FFA is a loss to the four time defending champs,
the St Pete Sharks, surprising. The FFA is a league of
champions and how fitting is it that a game that looms
so large is only a regular season match up and holds
many keys to determine who will be the champion among
champions.
This
game will feature the league's top rushers in the
Orlando Rage's #5 Levi Raines Jr. (58 car. 654 yds 8 td)
and the Bradenton Gladiators #3 Chauncey Jones (49 car.
444 yds 7 td). The key match ups will be the Gladiators'
#1 ranked offense (36.4 ppg) vs The Rage's #3 ranked
defense (7.8 ppg) and the Rage's #2 ranked offense (33
ppg) vs the Gladiators #1 ranked defense (5.6 ppg). On
the surface it would seem to be a potential defensive
struggle but there is simply too much offense in this
game. In the end it will come down to what all big games
come down to-Turnovers!!! It's the Rage Vs the
Gladiators in the FFA's game of the week!!!

Rage Maul Tigers: Reach Mid-Point in Season
Undefeated |
|
Orlando,
Fl
February
20, 2010
The Orlando Rage (5-0) traveled all the way across town
to the Orlando Sports Complex to play the host, Central
Florida Tigers (1-3). The Tigers, the new "cubs"
in Orlando, wanted to make their mark on the Orlando
Sports scene. And an upset victory over the
well-seasoned Rage would surely do just that.
The Tigers came out clawing and jumped up on the Rage 13
to 0 early on touchdown passes by QB John Jones to
TE Lloyd Gregg and WR Dessie Hall, respectively.
The Rage, however, weren't in any mood to let the
upstart Tigers stay on top for long and roared back with
two scores of their own on a spectacular 29 yard run by
RB Jermaine Boston and a short run by (Two-Time FFA
Player of the Week) RB Levi Raines.
Rage 14, Tigers 13 at the end of the first quarter.
The Rage never looked back scoring five more touchdowns
and a 39 yard Field Goal by PK Gianni Kourlesis. The
Rage touchdowns came on three passes by QB Kyle Israel
for 9 yards to RB Raishard Slater, a 28 yarder to WR
Jeremiah Chatman and a 10 yard pass to RB Jermaine
Boston.
The other two TD's came on runs by Boston and Raines.
Rage 52, Tigers 13.
The Rage are idle this week before traveling to
Bradenton to take on the AFC West Gladiators.

Rage "Win Ugly": Continue Unbeaten Streak |
|
Sebastian,
Fl
February
13, 2010
The Orlando Rage (4-0) traveled to Sebastian, Florida to
square off against the Space Coast Predators (1-2) in an
NFC Central match up. A Rage win would leave the Rage
undefeated on the season, but, more importantly,
undefeated in Division play. And a win by the Pred's
would leave them above .500 on the season.
The prohibitive favorite Rage came out fast scoring 13
points in the first quarter on a short RB Raishard
Slater touchdown run and a QB Kyle Israel pass to
Slater, while holding the host scoreless.
The Predators showed that they weren't just going to
give up against the Rage and the score held through the
half.
In
the third quarter the Rage managed a long drive
highlighted by a spectacular 45 yard touchdown run by RB
(and Week 3 FFA "Player of the Week") Levi Raines making
the score 20 to 0 in the third.
The Rage "Goon Squad" defense got hungry too. After the
Rage Kick Off squad pinned the Pred's in the shadow of
their own endzone the defensive line sacked the Pred's
quarterback in the endzone for a safety.
Rage 22, Pred's 0 in the fourth quarter.
In two of the previous weeks the Rage had been hindered
by the regulation "running clock" (a continuous-running
clock when the score becomes too lopsided) and couldn't
substitute back ups. Determined to get productive
playing time for the back up the Rage staff liberally
substituted players and their lack of game experience
showed with the Rage defense giving up chunks of yards
and the back up Rage offense turning the ball over three
times.
In the fourth quarter the Pred's defense got on the
board when they scooped up a fumble and returned it to
paydirt.
Final Score: Rage 22, Predators 6.
"It wasn't a pretty win by any means" commented Rage
head coach, Leonard Opheim. "But a lot of guys got
playing time-some impressed us, some didn't-but a win is
a win. We'll practice hard this week and get back Rage
football next Saturday" Opheim concluded.
The Rage will face off against the Central Florida
Tigers for "The Battle of O Town" on Saturday, February
20 before the February 27 bye week.

Levi Raines Named FFA "Player of the Week" for Weeks 3
and 4
It will come as no surprise to Rage
fans, but Rage RB Levi "Duke" Raines has been named the
"Offensive Player of the Week" for FFA Week 3 and Week
4.
In Week 3 versus reigning FFA Champion PSL Bobcats, Levi
carried the ball 16 times while amassing 129 yards and
two touchdowns and in Week 4 against the MC Starrs
Raines gained 101 yards on only 6 carries in the first
half.
In Week 5 Raines had two carries of over 40 yards each
while carrying the ball 16 times for 205 yards. Through Week 5 (four games) Raines has accounted for
over 500
total rushing years, seven touchdowns and countless
special teams yards.
Congratulations, "Duke".

Rage
Leave Muck City Seeing Starrs |
|
Winter
Park, Fl
February
6, 2010
The Rage returned home for game three of the 2010 season
and played the inhospitable host to the Muck City Starrs.
And the lack of hospitality left the visiting Starrs
reeling from the fourth play of the game.
The O Rage won the coin toss and deferred to the second
half. The Starrs' went three and out on their first
possession and punted to Rage DB/PR Carlos Solomon who
rambled and wove 63 yards for the game's initial score.
Rage 7, Starrs 0 with 12:48 left in the first quarter.
The Rage "Goon Squad" Defense continued to play
aggressive football giving the Rage offense, led by FFA
Player of the Week, Kyle Israel, two more possessions in
the first quarter. With touchdown runs by RB Rashard
Slater and Levi Raines the Rage managed a 21 to 0 lead
in the first quarter.
The Rage scored twice in the second quarter on runs by
Raines and RB Jermaine Boston making the score 34 to 0
at halftime.
Given the enormous lead at halftime the Rage liberally
substituted players in the second half and managed one
more score on an 18 yard ramble by Slater and the Starrs
finally got on the board late in the fourth quarter.
Final Score Rage 41, Starrs 7.
"This is the second time this season that we've been
hampered by the [FFA Rule] running clock." commented
Rage Offensive Coordinator, Ron Scarlata about the
continuously running game clock rule when the scores get
too lopsided. "I've been on the wrong side of games when
the other team runs up the score and have no intention
of just running up a score. But when we get two
possessions in the second half, I can't sub in back ups
to give them playing time. " Scarlata went on.
Interestingly, in the first half without the running
clock the Rage offense had seven possessions; in the
second they had only two-one of which was the second
half kick off.
The Rage travel to Sebastian Saturday to visit the
Division Rival Space Coast Predators.

Rage
Defeat Division Rival Bobcats |
|
Port St.
Lucie, Fl
January
30, 2010
For the second straight week the Orlando Rage squared
off for the "FFA GAME OF THE WEEK".
For the second straight week the Orlando Rage went into
the game as the underdog.
For the second straight week the Orlando Rage came away
with a win.
The much-anticipated match-up between the reigning FFA
Champion St Lucie Bobcats and the Reigning SSFL Champion
Orlando Rage finally took place. And it turned out to be
everything that it was billed to be-a hard-hitting
battle of champions.
The Bobcats got of to a quick start by taking the
opening kick off and driving 70 yards for the game's
initial score on a 33 yard touchdown reception by WR
Jared Allen. The ensuing PAT made it 7 to 0 as the score
remained through the balance of the first half.
Not to be outdone the Rage took the second half kick and
drove the distance culminating in a five yard touchdown
run by RB Levi Raines while eating up over five minutes
of the clock.
The Rage "Goon Squad" defense and special teams came up
big throughout the game and even more so in the second
half. With the Bobcats deep in Rage territory and
well within PK Mossimo Scaccia's field goal range the
Rage defensive line anchored by DT's John Porter and
Eddie Key took the Bobcat ball-carrier down for a big
loss setting up the attempt at a 47 yard field goal. On
the attempt, Rage LB Elly Salamo penetrated the line and
blocked the field goal.
The Rage then marched the distance for the second Raines
touchdown of the night on a 10 yard scamper with just
over six minutes left in the game.
The Rage ground game accounted for almost 200 yards on
the shoulders of Raines, Jermaine Boston and Rashard
Slater while Rage WR Jerimiah Chatman pulled down a
number of key first down receptions.
Rage 14, Bobcats 7.
This week the Rage play host to division rival Muck City
Starrs who are coming off a big win over the Central
Florida Tigers.

OFFENSE "RAINES" DOWN ON REAPERS |
|
Winter
Park, Fl
January
24, 2010
The Orlando Rage took the field Saturday night in their
much-anticipated debut to the Florida Football Alliance.
Despite being back-to-back champions of the SSFL and
coming off of a 14 and 1 2009 record, the Rage were
picked as the underdogs against the East Coast Reapers.
Despite the complete lack of clouds in the sky over
Raymond Screws Stadium, the Rage promptly brought
torrential "Raines" down on the favored-Reapers. The
"Raines" came in the form of a 60 plus yard opening kick
off return to inside of the Reapers' 20 yard line, two
running and one receiving touchdown from Rage RB Levi
RAINES.
The first quarter consisted of the Rage garnering 13
points from their first three possessions with a Raines
touchdown scamper for seven yards and two field goals of
27 and 32 yards from Rage PK Rob Zarrilli.
The second quarter saw even more Rage offense as QB (11
of 19, 159 yds, 2 TS) Kyle Israel hit veteran WR
Jeremiah Chatman on a 45 yard touchdown pass, Raines ran
in another touchdown and PK Gianni Kourlesis nailed a 42
yard field goal as time expired in the first half.
Rage 30, Reapers 0 at half time.
Under FFA Rules a "running clock" (no game clock
stoppage) takes place when there's a 35 point
differential in the third quarter; 30 points in the
fourth. Shortly into the third quarter Levi Raines got
his third and final score of the game when QB Kyle
Israel hit him for a short touchdown pass making the
score 36 to 0.
The Reapers didn't give up and managed a long drive
eating up almost all of the fourth quarter culminating
in a touchdown with seconds left in the game.
Rage 36, Reapers 6: Final.
The Rage travel to St. Lucie on January 30 to take on
powerhouse and reigning FFA Champions, Bobcats.

Extinguish Fire in National Bowl Weekend Event |
|
Deland,
Fl.
January
17, 2010
The
Orlando Rage squared off against the Columbus
(Ohio) Fire in the “Florida Bowl” as part of the
National Bowl Weekend events. The NBW 2010 featured ten
teams from as far away as the northeast to pair up for
five “bowl” games over Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday
weekend.
The
SEFL Florida Crusaders lost to the NIFL Florida
Regulators at noon, the South Georgia Warriors came back
to defeat the Michigan Thunder 26 to 23 at 4 pm and the
New York Red & Black manhandled the Lowell Nor’easten at
7pm on Saturday as the rains came and went at Spec
Martin Stadium in Deland, Florida.
Sunday
at noon was the Rage’s turn to take the field as a final
tune up before the FFA season kicks off next Saturday.
And the O Rage had their work cut out for them as they
squared off against the Columbus, Ohio Fire, 2009
Champions of the Mid-Continental Football League.
“Coming in to the National Bowl Weekend is always a
challenge” said Orlando Rage head coach, Leonard Opheim.
“Every year we play a team from the north that is a
champion in their own right and just wrapping up their
season-we’re always preparing for our season and haven’t
really seen our guys under live, game-situation fire.
Making matters even more difficult was playing the
fourth game on the field in less than 24 hours, with the
rain and weather.”
But the Rage managed to weather the storm.
The Rage offense started
slowly as Rage Offensive Coordinator, Ron Scarlata,
experimented with different personnel and packages. It
was the Rage “Goon Squad” defense that kept the game
close with the Rage down by seven points at half time.
The
third quarter proved to be more of the same as the
Offense struggled and the Goon Squad kept it tight.
Finally late in the fourth quarter the Rage offense
started to move. With key receptions by Rage WR’s Ryan
Thornton, Jeff LaPratt and Theo Chatman, and TE’s Jose
Gonzalez and Will Bailey, Rage QB Kyle Israel threw
touchdown passes to Thornton and Bailey making the final
score 14 Rage, 7 Fire. With the victory the Rage
clinched their second consecutive "Winter National
Championship" having defeated the Georgia Xtreme in
2009.

RAGE MVP
GOES PRO! |
|
Winter
Park, Fl.
January
19, 2009
Yet another Orlando Rage player has traded in his
amateur status for that of professional. Preston McGann,
Orlando Rage receiver and two-time Rice Bowl MVP has
signed with the Columbus (Ga) Lions of the Southern
Indoor Football League.
"Preston has worked very hard at picking up football-in
his college and high school he was a baseball guy."
Commented Rage owner Chris Morrison.
And Preston's hard work has paid off. Preston, who
reported to Lions camp last month, has impressed the
scouts so much that he had a look by the Florida Tuskers
of the UFL, many other indoor teams and was a finalist
among hundreds for Spike TV's "Fourth and Long"
television program.
"Every year we lose players to the professional and
college ranks" stated Rage Director of Player Personnel,
Randy Horn, "and it hurts. This year we lost two of our
most productive players in Preston and PeeJay [Jack].
But we're happy to send them on to the next level. After
all, that's why we're here."
Look for Preston to don the Lions' Royal Blue and Silver
in 2010.
As for the Rage, "We'll just reload and retool for the
season....as we do every year." concluded Rage Head
Coach, Leonard Opheim |

"Black
& Blue 2010" A Bruising Success! |
|
On
Saturday, December 12, the 2010 edition of the Orlando
Rage took the field for the annual intra-squad "Black
and Blue" scrimmage. Formerly the "Red and Blue" game
named after the retro-Rage Red and Blue uniforms the
phrase "black & blue" takes on more of a meaning than
simply the Rage's new uniforms.
"This year was even better than years before", Rage Vice
President and Player, Randy Horn commented. "We were
able to play the game at Tom Storey Field, marketing the
Rage to a different location while playing on a
"Pro-Turf" surface like our home field".
Also, the Rage stuck around to volunteer their time to
the Central Florida Youth Football League (CFYFL) as
they held their East-West All Star Game.
"It's always tough to judge the guys at practice, but
placing them; especially the new guys, in a
game-situation environment is a great way to measure
talent" Rage head coach, Leonard Opheim said. "Some
vet's got their eyes opened as several of the rookies
really looked good. Tenure is no basis for a starting
job."
Look for the Rage to Kick Off on Martin Luther King,
Jr., Weekend for the National Bowl Weekend in Deland
before the FFA season commences on January 23. |

community, the Orlando Rage has teamed up with the
Central Florida Youth Football League (CFYFL) to hold a
"Double Header" on Saturday, December 12, 2009.
The Rage's annual intra-squad scrimmage, the "Black &

up for Rage vets and Rookies before kicking off the

some will be lost" stated Rage head coach, Leonard Opheim. "But, as we do every year, we

cheer on the Youth All Stars on December 12.

Joe didn't have to look very far to find the Orlando

moments away from NB's retail store in Winter Park.
Located at 460 North Orlando Ave., Suite 110, Winter

Rage to
Appear in National Bowl Weekend for Third Consecutive
Year
|
|
Winter
Park, Florida
November
24, 2009
The Orlando Rage have been invited to participate in
National Football Events (NFE) "NATIONAL BOWL WEEKEND"
for the third consecutive year. The NFE which hosts Semi
Pro and Minor League Football Bowl Games and
Championships throughout the United States will make its
annual trek to Central Florida over the Martin Luther
King, Jr., holiday for National Bowl Weekend.
Last year the O Rage actually suited up for two games in
one day when Jim Nugent of NFE had a last minute
"scratch" of one team slated to play in the 8 pm "USO
Bowl".
"It wasn't really a double-header" commented Nugent,
"Rather the Rage came into the season with a huge roster
and I asked Mr. Morrison if his back ups would play in
the late game to fill in for a team that cancelled in
the last minute. And they accepted".
In 2009 the Rage first string defeated the Georgia
Xtreme (Deep South Football League Champs) in overtime
21 to 20 in one of the most exciting football games ever
hosted by NFE.
Don't expect the Rage to pull a "double-shift" this year
when the National Bowl Weekend kicks off during the
weekend of January 16 through 18, 2010.
The event will take place in Deland at Spec Martin
Stadium when NFE pairs up 12 of the nation's best in six
different Bowl Games.
Check back for details as to pairings, dates and times.

Interview with Jack)

Winter Park,
Florida
November 4, 2009
The ink hadn't even dried on Orlando Rage (and SSFL
Hall-of-Famer) Quarterback, PeeJay Jack's Letter of
Intent with the WILD of Anchorage, Alaska (IFL) when
Jack's telephone rang yet again. This time the "ring"
had a distinctly "foreign" tone.
Rage fans will remember May 2008 when literally the day
following Jack's leading the Rage to the first of two
consecutive SSFL Championships, PeeJay was called up to
River City Missouri to play for the (River City) Rage
only four days after winning the Championship. It seems
as though PeeJay's phone never stopped ringing.
After the 2009 SSFL Championship Jack's phone rang. The
other end was Florida Tuskers management asking to get a
look at Jack. Then the Wild of the Indoor Football
League called and made a formal offer to Jack. PeeJay,
always anxious to suit up and play entered into a Letter
of Intent with the Wild only to have yet ANOTHER call.
This time the call came from "over the pond" in Paris,
France. It seems that the Templiers of Edancourt, France
were looking for a Quarterback to lead their team in
'10.
In response to the Templiers' offer, Jack said "oui", or
yes.
The Templiers (just outside of Paris) play NFL rules
football in the French Football League. Last season the
Templiers had a strong squad but got knocked out in the
Semi-Finals of the EuroBowl Championship. Looking to
augment their already strong team, the Templiers signed
PeeJay for the 2010 season.
"PeeJay" has been a part of this organization since day
one" commented Rage owner, Chris Morrison. "He's the
mainstay of the Offense and he's a team leader....that
sort of player is impossible to replace" Morrison went
on.
"But that's what we're [the Orlando Rage] here for; to
help our guys move to the next level". And promoting
players to the "Next Level" is what the Rage has done.
In its decade of existence the Rage have placed more
than two dozen players into the ranks of the pros and
many other into college programs.
Join the Rage in saying "Au Revoir" to PeeJay, and
"Bonne Chance"!

RAGE JOIN FLORIDA FOOTBALL
ALLIANCE
|
|
Winter Park,
Florida
June 8, 2009
The Orlando Rage has opted to play its 2010 "Three-Peat" Season in the
Florida Football Alliance (FFA) after nine years in the Southern States Football
League (SSFL).
"It was one of the toughest personal and business decisions that I've ever made"
commented Rage owner, Chris Morrison of change. "I made many life-long friends
in the SSFL from (SSFL Commissioner) Dave Rice to most of the SSFL officiating
staff and I've grown accustomed to seeing these guys every week during the
season and I really will miss them" Morrison went on.
Morrison called his staff and key veteran players into a meeting shortly after
winning their second of back-to-back championships in the SSFL to vote on the
issue. Weighing the pros and cons of remaining with the SSFL or joining the FFA,
the vote was a tight one, but the Rage went with the FFA.
"Heretofore, the relationship between the FFA and the SSFL has been lukewarm to
say the least" continued Morrison, "but there's probably not a team in the FFA
whose roots don't relate back to the SSFL in one way or another. And for paving
the way Minor League Football in Florida owes Commissioner Rice and the SSFL a
debt of gratitude."
Look for the same, hard-hitting Orlando Rage in 2010 as they take on the best of
the FFA!

BACK-TO-BACK CHAMPS
|
|

|
|
Orlando,
Florida
May 9, 2009
The Orlando Rage completed their 2009 "Defending the Ring" quest Saturday
night in Florida's Citrus Bowl in the SSFL Championship "Rice Bowl IX". In 2008
the Rage defeated the Sarasota Millionaires in Rice Bowl VIII by the score of 55
to 26.
"When we started training camp in September our goal was back-to-back
championships" commented Rage second year head coach Leonard Opheim. "We had
almost all of our 2008 starters returning in 09 and a few additions" he went on
"so we knew that we had a good squad going into 09. But we did have a big target
on our backs as the defending champs."
Things looked good for the '09 Rage early in preseason when they defeated the
reigning FSFL Champion Hurricanes and the Georgia Xtreme. But the SSFL season is
a long one and anything could happen. The Rage played one more non-league game
defeating the DeSoto Cowboys of the NIFL and going 9 and 1 in SSFL play.
Ironically, the Rage's sole 2009 loss came at the hands of the Millionaires in
overtime in the last regular-season game.
With the Rice Bowl victory the Rage are 14 and 1 overall in 2009.
The Rage got off to a quick start taking the opening kick off and driving 80
yards for the touchdown on a short RB Jermaine Boston (2009 All Star) run. Rage
7, Millionaires 0. Later in the first quarter the Rage defense came up big when
Rage LB Greg Lewin (2009 All Star) intercepted a Mike Peterson pass and dashed
45 yards for the score. Rage 14, Millionaires 0.
The Rage continued to roll with scores from QB PeeJay Jack (2009 All Star) on a
short quarterback keeper and a touchdown pass from Jack to WR Preston McGann
(2009 All Star) making it 28 to 0 at the half.
The second half proved to be more of the same for the Rage with another
touchdown pass from Jack, this time to Rage WR Andre Raines, a 27 yard field
goal by K Michael Kidd (2009 All Star) and a Rice Bowl record setting
interception return for touchdown by DB Roger Sippio. The sole bright spot came
when Millionaires QB and "Mr. Everything" Mike Peterson returned a Rage kick Off
for the touchdown.
Final Score Rage 45, Millionaires 7.
The Rage will take a little time off before participating an a few Exhibition
and Fund-Raising games during the off-season. |

#53, Center, Ty Abney

Coming out of retirement (again) for the 2009 season, Orlando Rage Center, Ty
Abney is the O' Rage 2009 Recipient of the "Joel Crane Award". Each year the
award is given to honor former Rage player Joel Alexander Crane whose life was
tragically cut short in 2002. Joel demonstrated the utmost in sportsmanship and
dedication to God, family and team.
"Ty is the perfect example of what Joel represented." commented Rage owner,
Chris Morrison. Ty is always one of the first to arrive at practice and the last
to leave. "As a seasoned veteran of the trenches Ty acts as de facto coach of
the offensive line" added Rage Offensive Line coach, Andy Amrhein.
Having been "in the trenches" for years, after winning the Rice Bowl
Championship in 2008, Ty retired from football. But when the pads started
crunching last fall, he was lured out of retirement and had started every game
in 2009 and center.
Ty has previously been named an O Rage All Star and Player of the Week.
Congratulations to Ty Abney, 2009 Joel Crane Award Recipient!

Defensive Rookie of the Year

Zack Adkins
Zack "Crash" Adkins comes
to the Rage in 2009 as a rookie to the Rage, the SSFL and Semi-Pro football.
Undersized, Zack came into camp looking like just another "wannabe" defensive
player. He quickly made his presence in camp known to the coaching staff, and
even more so to the Rage offensive players.
"Zack packs a big punch" commented Rage linebackers coach Henry Kremnitzer. "He
brings everything on every play" Coach "K" went on.
And it's not only in games that "Crash" stands out. He's at every practice early
dressed out and ready to go. Zack loves the game and it shows.
Congratulations to Zack Adkins, 2009 Orlando Rage Defensive Rookie of the Year. |
Offensive Rookie of the Year

Wilson Bailey
Garnering the Offensive
Rookie of the Year award is Wilson "Will" Bailey. Will came into Rage training
camp donning long blonde locks much like former Ohio State Linebacker A J Hawk,
but spends his time on the offensive line.
Will has since sheared off his locks opting for the crop-top look.
Will has played every offensive line position even playing with a severe injury
at times. He also covers as back up long-snapper and is a big part of most
special teams.
During a brief stint in the middle of the season when he was injured and unable
to play he reported to every practice eager to learn more. This work-ethic makes
Will a valuable member of the Rage.

Rage Defeat Piranhas; Play in
Back-to-Back Championships |
|

Orlando, Florida
May 2, 2009
The Orlando Rage (13-1) defeated the Tri-City Piranhas 23 to 0 on Saturday, May
2, 2009, setting their second consecutive Rice Bowl appearance for May 9, 2009.
The Rage offense looked a little sluggish after the April 25th bye week, but the
defense and special teams more than made up for it.
Most of the action took place in the first half as the Rage rested its starters
in anticipation of the upcoming SSFL Championship on May 9. First half scores
consisted of a 22 yard touchdown pass and catch by QB PeeJay Jack to WR Preston
McGann, a 41 yard field goal by K Michael Kidd and a 40 yard punt return for
touchdown by DB Jerome Lowery. The punt return for touchdown was set up by Rage
P Ryan Hartsfield who pinned the Piranhas inside their own 2 yard line.
Although the game was by no means out of reach, the Rage sensed victory and
liberally subbed in back ups for the entirety of the second half.
The Rage defense continued to pitch the shut out; one of six in the 2009 season,
and the Rage scored again on a touchdown pass to WR Andre Raines.
Meanwhile in Sarasota, the Sarasota Millionaires won a shoot out over the St
Pete Sharks, 41 to 23 setting up a repeat of the 2008 Rice Bowl Championship.
As higher seed, the Rage will be the "home" team in the Championship game this
Saturday, May 9 in Orlando's Florida Citrus Bowl. |

Rage Participate in Central
Florida Eighteenth Boy Scouts "Golden Eagle" Dinner & Fundraiser |
|

Orlando, Florida
April 13, 2009
On
Monday, April 13, 2009, the Central Florida Council of Boy Scouts of America
(CFC-BSA) held its 18th annual "Golden Eagle" dinner in the Amway Arena. In
attendance were almost one thousand of Central Florida's political and business
leaders as well as the Orlando Rage.
The
event is held annually in order to raise funds for the CFC-BSA to go directly
into local Boy Scout Councils. The primary focus on this night was to help fund
the Councils in the neighborhoods immediately surrounding the Arena; an area
known for the prevalence of "at risk" kids.
The
Rage players and staff were able to mingle with such local politicians as Mayor
Rich Crotty and Sheriff Jerry Demmings as well as business and community leaders
of the likes of Chris Fenger (BrightHouse) and Dr. John Hitt, president of UCF.
All
tolled, the event garnered over EIGHT HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS for the CFC-BSA.
"We
have always been committed to 'putting back into the community'" commented Rage
owner, Christopher H. Morrison. "We [The Rage] have historically
contributed to local charities such as the Jeff Dorcely Fund, Recovery House
Central Florida and Central Florida Youth Football Association and had donated
about twelve percent of our operating budget to charities this already season,
but when Diane [Clarke of 102Jamz] and Tricia [Travis of Ivey Lane Elementary
School] approached us about the Boy Scouts; we felt that we just had to dig
deeper and give more" Morrison went on.
And
"give more", the Rage did! The Orlando Rage gave an additional 2% of their
annual budget to the event. "Besides" Morrison added, "When else do I get these
guys all dressed up and go to a fancy dinner?" he jested in parting alluding to
the "Black Tie" event.

Rage Drop Season Finale in
Overtime |
|
Sarasota, Florida
April 18, 2009
The Orlando Rage closed out their 2009 "Defending the Ring" regular season by
traveling to Sarasota to take on the Millionaires. The Rage and the Millionaires
are two of the strongest of the SSFL and know one another very well.
In 2008, the Rage and the Millionaires met three times; splitting the regular
season match ups and with the Rage prevailing in the Rice Bowl for the '08
Championship.
In '09 the Millionaires/Rage "feud" was played out on April 4 with the Rage
prevailing and again last night with the Millionaires winning in overtime 31 to
24. Many anticipate seeing a third pairing to the two on May 9th for the 2009
ring.
Entering the week the Rage were an undefeated 12 and 0, ranked number one
nationally by Minor League Football News and National Football Events and had
all but clinched the number one seed in the play offs. "Going into the game we
had everything to lose and nothing to gain" commented Rage Head Coach, Leonard
Opheim. "We were very careful to try to stave off any potential injuries and to
keep our packages very basic" Opheim went on.
But athletes are athletes and both teams fought hard for regulation play ending
in a 24 to 24 tie. In the modified Kansas City Tie Breaker, the Millionaires
prevailed.
Despite the loss, the Rage go into the play offs with the number one seed
thereby receiving a first round bye on April 25, before playing host to the
lowest seed remaining. |

Winter Park, Florida
April 12, 2009
The
Orlando Rage continued their 2009 "Defending the Ring" quest by garnering
another victory on Saturday night at Raymond Screws Field. The O' Rage
(10-0/12-0) also maintained their (current) undefeated status by soundly
defeating the Tampa Bay Comets 35 to 8.
The
Rage got off to a quick start with QB PeeJay Jack hurling two touchdown passes
in the first quarter; the first to WR Jerimiah Chatman and the second to WR
Jason Fox. Jack continued his pinpoint accuracy in the second quarter connecting
to Chatman for another touchdown and later to WR Preston McGann.
Rage
28, Comets 0, at the half.
The
second half featured more of the Rage defense including an interception and
return for touchdown by DT Dan Turcotte on a spectacular play when Turcotte
tipped an errant Brian Garnett pass to himself and ambled in for the score.
The
Comets, however, were not intimidated by the Rage defense and managed a number
of long drives, one ending in a Comets touchdown.
Final
Score, Rage 35, Comets 8.
The
Rage travel to Sarasota to take on the Millionaires in the final regular-season
game of the year before a first round play off bye on April 25 and then hosting
a second-round play off game on May 2. The only significance of the
Rage/Millionaires match-up is play off seeding (1st or 2d) and the Rage trying
to maintain their current-undefeated status.

RAGE VETS MAKE
"CASTING CALL"
Orlando, Florida
March 4, 2009
We all
recall the excitement that former Dallas Cowboy and Miami Hurricane Wide
Receiver Michael Irvin brought to the Gridiron, but now the talented "Playmaker"
is trying to show his "skills" producing a reality television program. Irvin's
Playmaker Productions has joined up with 3 Ball Productions, Spike TV and the
Dallas Cowboys to create a reality television show that will land the winner a
guaranteed spot on the Cowboys' 80-man training camp roster July 31. The
10-episode reality show, which has yet to have a title, will air on cable's
Spike TV in the spring.
Producers of the show and Irvin narrowed the thousands of applicants from Los
Angeles, Dallas, Columbus and Orlando down to 39 semifinalists. Included in the
semi-finalists were former Rage Defensive Back Nick Frazier and current Rage
Wide Receiver, Preston McGann. Then on February 25 in Los Angeles the 39
semi-finalists were pared down to the final 12 – six receivers, six defensive
backs – who will return to Dallas for several weeks to crown a Cowboy.
Included on the "short list" is McGann, 2008 Rice Bowl MVP and perennial Rage
All-Star.
"We're looking for legitimate players who have the physical ability and talent,"
said Allison Kaz, vice president of casting for 3Ball Productions, which is
overseeing the show. "And we're looking for a good story of why that player
never went pro."
Well if they are looking for a good story, they have one in McGann. Aside from
his obvious talents showcased throughout the SSFL venues, Preston came to the
Rage in 2006 as a former college baseball player with little or no football
experience. His natural athletic abilities quickly raised him to the level of
starter and, from there, MVP of the Rage's 2008 championship.
Look for Preston on Spike TV later this spring and hopefully donning the Cowboy
Blue and Silver uniform.

Rage End Millionaires
Perfect Season With 34-14 Win in Orlando
by Doug Miles
(Winter Garden, FL) A dream match up of unbeaten teams
turned into a nightmare for the Sarasota Millionaires in a 34-14 loss to the
Orlando Rage Saturday night. The loss was the first for the Millionaires who had
won 9 games in a row to start the season.
The Rage forced seven Millionaire turnovers
intercepting quarterback Mike Petersen four times and recovering three Sarasota
fumbles. “We got beside ourselves and it showed the way we played”, said team
owner Calvin Williams. “We got a little salt taste in our mouth tonight. We’ve
just got to regroup, correct some things and go forward.”
The Rage opened the scoring on quarterback PJ Jack’s
five yard touchdown run five minutes into the opening quarter. Orlando put the
Millionaires behind 13-0 just over five minutes later when Jack hit receiver
Theo Chatman on a 22 yard touchdown pass. Meanwhile, the Rage defense continued
to rush Mike Petersen forcing him to hurry his throws all game.
Sarasota’s offense got on track early in the third
quarter when Petersen engineered a 40 yard scoring drive in less than four
minutes capped off by a 1 yard toss into the end zone to Bruce Singleton. An
improvised two point conversion off a low snap from center on the extra point
attempt pulled the Millionaires to within 13-8.
The
Rage answered back with two consecutive touchdowns when PJ Jack connected again
with Theo Chatman on a ten yard scoring strike. Four and a half minutes later
Jack hit tight end Don Orelus from 1 yard out increasing Orlando’s lead to 27-8
at the end of three quarters.
Brandon Johnson gave the Millionaires
new life by returning a PJ Jack interception twenty yards for a touchdown
narrowing the gap to 28-14 with 12:58 left in the game. Sarasota missed an
opportunity to tighten the game even further when they were unable to score on a
fourth and goal from the one yard line. The Rage responded by setting an SSFL
record when PJ Jack fired a quick pass to Andre Raines over the middle who
carried the ball the rest of the way for a ninety-nine yard touchdown pass
making it 34-14 and maintaining the Rage’s winning streak at 11 games this
season.

RAGE-MILLIONAIRES REMAIN UNDEFEATED |
|
Orlando, Florida
March 28, 2009
The Orlando Rage continued to be unbeaten defeating the Four-Time SSFL Champion
St Petersburg Sharks 33 to 14 on a blustery Saturday night. On the same evening
the Sarasota Millionaires; the other remaining undefeated team continued their
streak by beating the Tri-City Piranhas 36 to 6. The "Battle of the Undefeateds"
is set for Saturday, April 4, at the Orlando Rage's home venue of Raymond Screws
Stadium.
The Rage drew first blood when RB James Andrews scampered in for an eight yard
touchdown. The Sharks offense then went three and out and punted against the
strong wind. The Rage took over with good field position and looked poised to
score again. That's when the shifty Sharks defense took over. Sharks DB Antwan
Jennings caused a fumble in the Rage backfield and, with a fortuitous bounce,
picked the ball up and raced 60-plus yards for the touchdown. The Sharks then
successfully completed a pass from QB Nick Kirby to WR Phillip Webster for the
two-point conversion making the score Rage 7, Sharks 8. This marked only the
second time this season that the Rage had been behind in the score.
Interestingly, the other time was in game one versus the Sharks when the Rage
trailed 3 to 0 early in that match up.
Later in the first half the Rage managed a field goal, one of an SSFL record
tying four for the night, by K Michael Kidd.
Rage 7, Sharks 8 at the half.
The
second half turned into a feeding frenzy for the Rage as they put up 23 points
to the Sharks 6. K Michael Kidd hit field goals from 37, 42 and 19 yards to tie
the SSFL One-Game record, and the Rage ran in a touchdown, threw in another and
Rage LB Greg Lewin intercepted a Kirby pass and ran it back 37 yards for the
score.
Final score Rage 33, Sharks 14.
This week the Sarasota Millionaires will travel to Orlando to take on the Rage
in the much-anticipated "Battle of the Undefeateds". Come out and support your O
Rage.

COWBOYS |

Orlando, Florida
March 21, 2009
The Orlando Rage continued on their 2009 quest Saturday night when they played
host to the DeSoto Cowboys. The Rage were originally scheduled to host the
unbeaten Millionaires, but were compelled to reschedule the much-anticipated
event after a death in the "Millionaire Family". Fortunately for the Rage the
'Boys from DeSoto county stepped up for the game.
The
Cowboys, coming out of Arcadia, DeSoto county, had yet to play a regulation game
as their season is just getting under way. And to open against the undefeated
and reigning SSFL champion Rage was quite an eye-opener. But the Cowboys were up
for the task.
The
Rage got off to a quick start when Rage RB Jermaine Boston scored on a 38 yard
run on the second play from scrimmage. It looked like the Rage would make light
work of the Cowboys, but the 'Boys fought back hard.
The Rage
scored again on runs by Boston and by QB PeeJay Jack as well as a defensive
touchdown when DB Ramone Raines scooped up a Cowboys fumble in the end zone. The
Rage completed the half when K Michael Kidd hit a 35 yard field goal as time
expired.
Rage 30, Cowboys 0 at the half.
The
Cowboys came out of the half strong and, in their opening drive of the second
half, drove the ball the distance for the score. The third quarter touchdown by
the Cowboys marked the first score allowed by the Rage defense since the season
opener on February 7th.
The
Rage scored two more times on another Jack quarterback keeper and a pass from QB
Michael Granato to WR Chris Morrison.
Final score, Rage 44, Cowboys 6.
A
very special "thank you" from the "RageNation" to Coach Roman and the entire
Cowboys organization for agreeing to play in the game. The Cowboys demonstrated
the characteristics that will make them a formidable opponent in the future.
"They were well-coached and disciplined" commented Rage head coach, Leonard
Opheim of the Cowboys.
Look for the Rage to host the FIVE TIME SSFL CHAMPION St Pete Sharks on
Saturday, March 28.

Rage Defeat Piranhas |
|
Largo,
Florida
March 14, 2009
The
defending SSFL Champion Orlando Rage continued their winning streak
Saturday when they traveled to Largo, Florida to take on the Tri
City Piranhas. The Piranhas were coming off of a three game
winning-streak with two shut outs under their belts.
The Rage defense boasted three consecutive shut outs.
The Rage started the scoring in the first quarter when they drove
the length of the field for the first of two touchdowns by Rage RB
James Andrews. The drive was highlighted by a fourth down reception
by Rage WR Jeremiah Chatman to keep the drive alive.
The Rage capped off the first half scoring with two touchdown runs
by RB Jermaine Boston.
Rage 21, Piranhas 0 at the half.
The second half marked more of the Rage defense holding the Piranhas
scoreless while the Rage offense scored another touchdown on a short
James Andrews run.
The Rage special teams had another big game. Rage P Ryan Hartsfield
boomed clutch punts when needed, K Michael Kidd went four-for-four
in PAT's and scored on a 34 yard field goal. And Rage DL Dan
Turcotte blocked two punts; one when he literally tossed his blocker
into the Piranhas punter causing the block.
All tolled, the Rage continued their unbeaten streak and the Rage
defense marked their fourth consecutive shut out. Rage 31, Piranhas
0.

February 28,
2009
The
O' Rage played the inhospitable host to the Tampa Bay Sentinels on
Week Four of the SSFL season by pitching another shut out while
scoring a total of 49 points.
The Sentinels play in the SSFL and the National Public Safety
Football League; a league comprised of certified law enforcement and
firefighters, pulling "double duty" in both leagues.
The Rage got off to an early start on two short touchdown runs by RB
Jermaine Boston, a long touchdown pass from QB PeeJay Jack to WR
Andre Raines and a defensive fumble recovery in the end zone making
the score at 28 to 0 at the half.
In the second half the Rage continued to roll with Jack hooking up
with WR Jeremiah Chatman for another long touchdown pass, RB Michael
Rivers scoring on an eight yard run and finally on a spectacular
interception return by DB Roger Sippio as he weaved 60 yards for the
touchdown.
The Rage will enjoy March 7 off before travelling to Tampa to
play the Piranhas.

Venice,
Florida
February 21,
2009
The
Orlando Rage traveled to Venice, Florida to take on the then 2 and 0
Sarasota Seminoles in week three of the 2009 "Defending the Ring"
season. The Seminoles had given up a total of two points total in
their prior two victories and boasted a strong defense.
The 2008 SSFL Champion Rage came in on a high note. After winning
their League in May 2008, the Rage defeated the Tampa Hurricanes and
Georgia Xtreme in preseason match ups; each of which were reigning
champs of their respective leagues and won the first two games of
the 2009 season.
The Rage drew first blood interestingly enough on a safety. Rage P
Ryan Hartsfield pinned the 'Noles deep within their own five yard
line and from there the Rage D-Line took over and sacked the 'Noles
quarterback in the end zone. On the ensuing drive after the free
kick Rage RB James Andrews ran in for an eight yard touchdown. The
PAT failed. Rage 8, 'Noles 0.
The Rage capped off the first half of scoring when the 'Noles lined
up for an all-but automatic 32 yard field goal. Rage DT Dan Turcotte
crashed through the "Noles offensive line and blocked the attempt.
The errant ball landed in Rage DB and part owner, Randy Horn's hands
and he raced the distance for the touchdown. Rage 15, 'Noles 0 at
the half.
The second half marked more defensive play by both teams. The Rage
scored again on a 27 yard field goal by K Michael Kidd and on a
short run by RB Jermaine Boston. At the end of regulation play the
Rage were victorious by the score of 25 to 0; marking the Rage
Defense's second shut out in as many weeks.
The Rage are home this week on February 28 as they play host to the
Tampa Bay Sentinels.

TAKE A BITE OUT OF PIRANHAS |

Orlando, Florida
February 14,
2009
On
Valentine's Day the Orlando Rage held their 2009 season opener
hosting the Tri City Piranhas. But the Rage didn't deliver the
traditional Valentine's Day flowers and chocolates to the Piranhas,
rather the Rage served up 41 points and a shut out by the Rage
defense.
The scoring started early when Rage DB, DeShawn Lawrence intercepted
a Piranhas pass and delivered it to their ten yard line. Two plays
later Rage RB Jermaine Boston scored the touchdown. On the ensuing
possession of the Piranhas, Rage DB Jerome Lowry scooped up a fumble
and rambled 45 yards for the score.
Early in the second quarter Rage RB James Andrews pounded in a
touchdown making the score 20 to 0. The rest of the game
featured the opportunistic Rage defense causing numerous turnovers
and wreaking havoc in the Piranhas' backfield. Rage DB's Ramone
Raines, Jeremy Lockett and Sebastian Ordonez all intercepted errant
Piranhas passes.
The Rage offense also scored on a short pass from QB PeeJay Jack to
TE Donald Orelus and Jermaine Boston and James Andrews each scored
again.
Final score, Rage 41, Piranhas 0.
The Rage travel to Venice to take on the Sarasota Seminoles this
week.

Win Season Opener in "SHOOT-OUT": Rage 27, Sharks 24 |
|
St. Petersburg,
Florida
February 7, 2009
The
Orlando Rage opened their 2009 "Defending the Ring" season with a
good, old-fashioned "Rage vs. Sharks" match up, defeating the Sharks
by a score of 27 to 24.
In prior years the Rage and the four-time SSFL Champion St
Petersburg Sharks have matched up well against one-another. In 2007
the Rage swept the Sharks in the regular season only to lose to them
in the play offs and in 2008 the Sharks swept the Rage in the
regular season only to lose to the Rage in the play offs. All
tolled, in the last seven match ups the Rage have scored a total of
162 points and the Sharks have scored 153; nine points differential
in seven match ups.
"That's remarkable" commented SSFL commissioner, Dave Rice about the
statistic. "[The point differential] demonstrates the parity of the
teams in the League. And the Sharks/Rage rivalry is really one of
the best pairings that I've seen in my years associated with Minor
League Football" Rice went on.
The game started with the Sharks returning the opening kick
off all the way to inside the Rage 10 yard line. The stout
Rage defense held the Sharks to a field goal. The Rage then drove
the ball the distance for a touchdown. The drive was highlighted by
two huge receptions by Rage WR Jimmy Rose; first making a clutch
third down conversion, then with a 17 yard touch down catch.
The Rage scored another touchdown on a pass from QB PeeJay Jack to
RB Jermaine Boston and Rage K Michael Kidd capped the Rage's first
half scoring with a field goal. The Sharks were able to score a
touchdown making the score Rage 17, Sharks 9 at the half.
In the second half the Rage special teams came up big. Rage P Ryan
Hartsfield pinned the Sharks inside their own 3 yard line. On fourth
down and from inside their own end zone the Sharks tried to punt
only to have it blocked and recovered by the Rage for a touchdown.
Later K Michel Kidd hit another field goal which turned out to be
the difference in the game.
The Sharks didn't surrender and roared back with two touchdowns in
the second half, but came up short in the end. FINAL SCORE: Rage 27,
Sharks 24.
Look for the Rage "Home Opener" this weekend on February 14 as they
play host to the hungry Piranhas.

Deland, Florida
January 18, 2009
In
a "First of its Kind" the Orlando Rage played a "Double-Header" by
playing TWO football games in ONE day on Saturday, January 18, 2009,
at Spec-Martin Stadium in Deland. Florida in conjunction with the
National Bowl Weekend events.
"It wasn't really a double-header." Commented event organizer, Jim
Nugent of National Football Events about the Orlando Rage squaring
off against the Georgia Xtreme in the Palm Bowl at noon and again at
7 pm as the Rage second-string played the Carolina Express. "One of
the teams slated to play at 7 pm backed out at the last moment"
Nugent went on "so I asked Chris Morrison of the Rage if they could
participate a game featuring only the Rage back ups to cover for the
empty slot. Chris gladly accepted. And for that I thank him and the
Rage very much."
The Palm Bowl marked the first ever Spring-League vs. Summer-League
National Championship Game with the Xtreme, the United South Summer
2008 Champions squaring off against the Rage, the SSFL Spring 2008
Champions.
And the game was just that; a Battle of Champions!
The Rage took the early lead in the first quarter with a 25 yard
touchdown pass from QB PeeJay Jack to WR Preston McGann and later a
short touchdown run by RB Michael Rivers making the score 14 to 0 at
the half.
The Xtreme showed why they were their League's champs by matching
the Rage's 14 points and with "regulation" ending in a 14 to 14 tie.
Under the SSFL rules overtime is a "modified Kansas City
Tie-breaker" much like the NCAA tie-breaker, but with each
possession starting on the 10 yard line.
The X-Men got the ball first and drove it in for the score. The Rage
special teams then blocked the PAT. Xtreme 20, Rage 14.
Next the Rage got their overtime possession. On third down Jack
connected with WR Jeremiah Chatman for the score and Rage K Michael
Kidd hit the PAT for the Rage victory, 21 to 20.
Later in the evening the Rage second stringers and back ups put
together an ad hoc "Rage" offense, defense and special teams to fill
in the empty slot. The 1st Annual USO Bowl had the ersatz Rage
playing the Carolina Express. The "Rage" included Offensive Line
Coach, Andy Amrhein, D-Lineman John Bryant and Rage Fullback Tommy
McDaniel seeing playing time on the O-Line, back up quarterback,
Mike Granato playing tight end and even 44 year old Rage owner,
Chris Morrison taking the field as many of the Rage back ups got
extensive playing time.
The "Replacement-Rage" hung tough against a speedy Express Offense
keeping the score close as the teams went into the half, Rage 3,
Express 14. But the experience of the Express was too much for the
Replacements as the game ended with a score of 28 to 9.
"It was a win-win situation for us. " commented Rage owner (WR)
Chris Morrison of the game. "It gave our players who mostly serve as
back ups a lot of playing time and, frankly, everyone had a great
time. It's not too often an old guy like me sees the field, let
alone account for a number of receptions." Morrison, an ex-Florida
Gator added.
"Naturally, the Express were very excited about their road win, as
they should've been; they came in here short-handed and played hard
for four quarters.......I didn't have the heart to tell them that
they actually [played] the Rage back-ups. Oh well, let them enjoy
their win." concluded Morrison.

TO PLAY "DOUBLE-HEADER" AT NBW
2009
National Bowl Weekend |
|
In an unprecedented move, the Orlando
Rage have agreed to play TWO games at this year's
National Bowl Weekend. In addition to the scheduled
"Palm Bowl" on Sunday, January 18, 2009 at Noon, the
Rage are slated to play again at 7 pm in the "USO Bowl".
National Football Events president Jim Nugent had
difficulties when one of the opponents for the first
annual "USO Bowl" backed out at the last minute. Nugent,
who arranges minor league "Bowl" games throughout the
country with NFE, reviewed the Rage's deep roster and
inquired of Rage staff if the Rage "back ups and second
teams" would like to have their own game. The Rage
gladly accepted.
"It's a great opportunity to give some of the guys who
haven't yet seen much action some valuable playing
time", commented Rage Head Coach, Leonard Opheim.
Besides, what better benefit than the USO as American
troops are currently engaged in two conflicts overseas.
So, look for the Rage at Noon on Sunday, January 18 as
they square off against the Georgia Xtreme and again at
7 pm as the Rage back ups take on the Carolina Express. |

Rage
Win Pre-Season Charity Match-up
|
|
Orlando,
Florida
January 10, 2009
The
"Battle of the Champions" of a sort was played at Raymond
Screws Field on Saturday, January 10, 2009. Dubbed the "Battle
of the Champions" the event pitted the SSFL's Orlando Rage
against the FSFL's Tampa Bay Hurricanes in a Charity Event for
the Dorcely Family Fund.
Jeff Dorcely, a long time Rage fan and Ball Boy tragically
lost his mother around Thanksgiving leaving Jeff, the eldest
of the household, to fend for himself and four younger family
members. The Rage donated $1,500 to the Fund from monies
collected at the game.
The
game proved to be a classic match up of two "Champions" as
both teams slugged it out for four quarters. When the smoke
cleared, the Rage turned out on top by the score of 17 to 16.
The
scoring started when Rage kicker Michael Kidd hit a 34 yard
field goal in the first quarter. Later in the first half the
'Canes upped the Rage when QB Micah Brown hooked up with WR
Jason Rodriguez for a touchdown. The PAT failed. Rage 3,
Hurricanes 6.
The
Rage came back with a touchdown pass from QB PeeJay Jack to WR
Preston McGann making the score Rage 9, 'Canes 6 at the half.
The
second half proved to be even closer than the first as the
'Canes defense caused a Rage fumble in their own end zone
making the score 14 to 9. Late in the fourth quarter the Rage
took the fifth and final lead change of the game when QB Jack
caught TE Jose Gonzalez over the middle for a touchdown.
Rage 17, 'Canes 14.
But
the game was far from over. The 'Canes again pinned the Rage
offense inside its one yard line and again capitalized on the
Rage's dilemma when an all out blitz caught QB Jack in the end
zone for the safety. Rage 17, Hurricanes 16.
The
remaining seven minutes had the hungry Rage defense trying to
keep the Hurricanes offense out of field goal position. The
game ended as the Hurricanes offense, without time outs, tried
to manage a final drive.
"As
far as I'm concerned this was a tie-game" commented Rage owner
Chris Morrison after the game. "Both teams played hard and
well right up to the final whistle. It's not too often that
you see this level of talent and sportsmanship demonstrated as
we saw today" Morrison went on.
But
neither team; winner or loser, lost sight of the real purpose
of the game as the proceeds went to a great cause.

In what could be
dubbed the "Battle of the Champions" the Orlando Rage (Reigning Southern States
Football League Champs) and the Tampa Bay Hurricanes (Reigning Florida State
Football League Champs) have scheduled an Exhibition Game for Saturday, January
10, 2009. The proceeds will go to the "Dorcely Family Fund".
Rage fans and players know Jeff Dorcely as the young man who
paced the sidelines with "Little Spoon" over the seasons
filling in as Ballboy and Waterboy. Unfortunately tragedy
struck young Jeff just before the Holidays and he was forced
to grow up fast. Below is his story as published by WFTV

5 Boys Fend For Selves After
Mom Dies
Tuesday,
December 16, 2008
– updated: 10:57 am EST December 17, 2008
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. -- Five teenage
boys, forced to take care of themselves right
before the holidays, are seeing the spirit of
others. Their mom died five days ago but now,
the Lake Brantley High School football team and
much of the community are rallying behind the
kids.
A lot of the story
revolves around two best friends, both defensive
tackles, both with dreams of playing at the
University of South Florida. Their friendship
was tested last week when one boy’s mother died,
leaving him with nothing but the responsibility
of caring for himself, his brother, and three
cousins.
Jeff Dorcely is
18-years-old. He’s looking after two
17-year-olds, a 15-year-old and a 13-year-old.
The five had lived with their mother in a tiny
two bedroom apartment. But their mother went
into the hospital the night before Thanksgiving
and never came out.
"They found a large
mass on the right side of her brain,” said Jeff.
Without warning, five
young men found themselves with no money, no one
to take care of them, and no food.
"We got free lunch at
school and took advantage of that," Jeff said.
Jeff, a star football
player with dreams of going pro, is now faced
with working to support the rest of the boys.
When best friend and fellow defensive tackle
Danny Palmer found out what had happened, he
moved quickly.
“We have to… I have to
do something," said Danny.
There is also a fund
set up for the five kids at Orange Bank.
Dorcely Family Fund (click
for information)
All of the proceeds will go
to the "Dorcely Family Fund".
And what better place than the Rage home field to hold a
fundraiser for one of the Rage's biggest fans?
The
game will be held at the campus of West Orange High School
with Kick Off at 1:00 pm. Tickets will be available at the
gate for only $10 each with the proceeds going to the Fund.
The
Rage have long ventured into the Charity/Benefit Arena.
Afterall, it was the Rage who started the
"Toys-for-Tots" benefit games back in 2003, have donated
countless hours and dollars to other worthwhile causes and
continue to do so today.
As
to the game, itself, the Tampa Bay Hurricanes, coming off a
Championship Season, will travel to Orlando in a rare Southern
States vs. Florida State inter-League game.
"This will be a great opportunity to tune up some of our
veterans and get a look at some of the rookies in live-game
situations," stated Rage head coach, Leonard Opheim. The Rage
have one more pre-season game scheduled for January 18, 2009,
as the "National Football Events" makes its annual trek to
Florida for the National Bowl Weekend, before the SSFL 2009
season starts on February 7.
The
Hurricanes are looking to "tune up" as well for their FSFL
season which kicks off on January 31.

STAMPEDE GAME
CANCELLED-RAGE TO PLAY IN NATIONAL BOWL WEEKEND
Last week the Rage were hit with some bad news; the much-anticipated game on
January 17, 2009, vs the Superior Stampede had to be cancelled due to logistics
problems encountered by the Stampede. The Stampede staff and players very much
wanted to come to Florida to take on the Rage, but were unable to make all
arrangements in time for the Martin Luther King, Jr., Holiday weekend.
Not
wanting to miss an opportunity to showcase the 2008 SSFL Champion Orlando Rage,
Jim Nugent of National Football Events jumped at the chance to have the Rage
play back-to-back years in the National Bowl Weekend and by the time the
smoke cleared, the Rage had a number of other opponents to play on the January
17th event.
"No one feels more disappointed about the cancellation than the Stampede staff
and players." commented Rage owner Chris Morrison about the newly-released
information. "We were burning up the telephone lines for a few days trying to
make it work. But with transportation, hotels, and travel just after the
Holidays, we soon realized that they just couldn't make it happen," Morrison
went on as to his discussions with Stampede staff. 'Hopefully, we can set
something up for later in the year." he concluded.
Nonetheless, look for the 2009 ORLANDO RAGE to square off in the National Bowl
Weekend against another strong opponent on January 17th.

RAGE UNVEIL NEW
LOOK
|
|
  |
|
To kick off the 2009 "Defending the Ring" season
of the SSFL, the Orlando Rage have announced a new look uniform. Historically,
the Rage have donned the Red/Royal/Silver uniforms, but in a move to update the
look, Rage management have revealed that they are phasing the red out and opting
to go with black. Look for the same, old
Rage in bold new uniforms this season as they set out to defend their 2008 SSFL
Championship. |

RAGE START
FULL-CONTACT NOVEMBER 1st
Look for the "Old Red and Blue" to turn black and blue this Saturday as the
2009 Orlando Rage start their full contact practice. At 9 am SHARP the newest
version of the O Rage will commence full contact drills in preparation for the
upcoming SSFL season which officially Kicks Off on February 7th.
Use whatever old cliché works; "Separate the men from the boys", "Find out who's
a contender and who's a pretender" this Saturday as the boys "strap them on".
"Everybody looks good in shorts" commented Rage second year Head Coach, Leonard
Opheim about the heretofore non-contact drills. "It's when the players gear up
and start making contact when we see who really has it".
And "who really has it" will be determined shortly.
Rage will engage in full-contact practices every Saturday from November 1st
until January at 9 am at Ward Field "B" in downtown Winter Park. Come on out and
see "who has it"!

"Doctor, lawyer, Indian chief" is a
phrase from a nursery rhyme and also a song from the
'40s. It could almost be the slogan for the Orlando
Rage, defending champions of the Southern States
Football League.
Actually, I did not meet an
Indian chief at their first practice Saturday morning,
but there was a practicing emergency room doctor, a
practicing Winter Park attorney and 50 or so other guys
still living the football dream.
"We've got
old men like me, young kids and everyone in between,"
said owner/wide receiver/attorney Chris Morrison, 44,
while watching the practice at Ward Park in Winter Park.
To avoid confusion, this is not the one-season Orlando
Rage of the ill-fated XFL. This is a minor-league and
unsalaried team that began in 2000 as the Orlando Starz
(also the name of a women's football team).
The
Starz? Guys called the Starz? Please.
Morrison is
more owner than player now as he battles a popped Achilles.
He calls himself a "50-50" player -- "I come in when we are
up by 50 or down by 50."
On Saturday he also was
constantly chasing his 2 1/2 -year-old son Max, who thought
it was great fun to assault visitors. "Don't throw dirt at
the media," advised Chris, although others might tell Max
that it's never too early to start.
Pat Fullerton,
39, is the doctor we mentioned. A former member of the
Army's Special Forces, Fullerton is in his second season
with the Rage.
"Friends will say, 'You do what?'
and then wonder why I don't just play golf," said Fullerton,
"but I can still throw a 60-yard pass and still run away
from a defensive end. And, besides, it's still fun."
PeeJay Jack, 29, is the Rage starting quarterback. "I'll
keep playing until I don't have it anymore," he said, "so
I'm thinking I'll play until I'm about 80."
The
Rage season doesn't begin until January with home games on
the West Orange field. Morrison says a good crowd is 500
fans, hopefully 500 paying fans. But these guys pay to play,
so making money has never been the point.
There
are two more tryout camps Saturday and Sept. 20 at 8:30 a.m.
at Ward Park. And there's a Web site -- Orlandorage.com --
where you can learn more about the team.
I may go
to a game in January -- as long as young Max Morrison
promises not to throw anymore dirt on me. Just like the
dreams of the Rage, I'm not dead yet.

Piranhas looking to take a
bite out of SSFL

The latest of three new additions to the SSFL "ocean", Tri-City Piranhas,
have come on board for the 2009 SSFL season. The Piranhas, haling out of
Largo, Florida, are looking to take a bite out of the SSFL in '09. With
solid ownership the "Fierce Fish" now find themselves swimming in the same
pond as the new franchises of the Comets and Sentinels as well as the SSFL
mainstays Fire, Millionaires, Sharks and Rage. Look for them at
www.PiranhasFootball.com as well as the new Comets

Keep your eyes on the
SSFL as they plan to announce another one or two qualified franchises in the
near future. |

RAGE YOUTH FOOTBALL
CLINIC A HUGE SUCCESS |
|
On Saturday, August 9, 2008, the Staff and Players of the ORLANDO RAGE
hosted a Youth Football Clinic for area Youth Football Players. The clinic
was conducted in conjunction with the Central Florida Youth Football League
(CFYFL). The event was FREE OF CHARGE and was open to all young football
players from 5 to 15 years of age.
The players were instructed in a variety of football tasks from the
conduction of practice to specific skill and technique drills.
"Many of these kids haven't played organized football" commented CFYFL Coach
Mark Rose" and having [Rage] coach Opheim run a realistic "Rage" practice
let them know how a real football practice is run".
And participate in a "REAL" football practice session they did! Rage Head
Coach Leonard Opheim instructed the players on pre-practice organization and
preparedness. Rage defensive coaches Henry Kremnitzer and Cornelious
Friendly ran them through warn up ant stretching. Each then broke down
into positions and went through drills and technique work outs before coming
together for special teams.
"Each of the
players seemed to learn sometiong and hone their skills today" offered Rage
part owner and defensive back Randy Horn.
Given
the enormous success, look for the Rage to hold another camp before starting
training camp in early September. |

RAGE PROMOTE
TO "NEXT LEVEL"
On
Saturday, July 26, 2008, the Baltimore Mariners of the American Indoor
Football Association held Try Outs for their upcoming season. Select Rage
and other area players were invited.
Rage players participating included SSFL Hall of Fame inductee, PeeJay Jack,
Rice Bowl co-MVP's Preston McGann and Jerome Lowery as well as a host of
others. Although no formal offers have been made yet the Mariners' staff
were particularly interested in a number of Rage players.
"This happens to us every couple of years" commented Rage director of player
personnel, Randy Horn of the apparent exodus of Rage players to the coveted
"next level". "Yes, it hurts in the short run, but as word gets out that
we're actually committed to helping these players attain their goals; and
they're realizing them [the goal of signing a professional contract] it
brings a better quality of player to our roster" Horn went on.
And historically it has proven successful for the Rage starting with Michael
Vaughn in 2001, the first of well over two dozen players placed into the
ranks of college or professional football by the Rage. "Over the years since
Mike's [Vaughn] departure to the pros, our record has gone from a mediocre
.500 team, to three-time division champs and SSFL Champion."
"Apparently we're doing something right" Horn concluded.
Look for the Rage to host training camp/try outs in September with some new
faces.

"FROM
RAGE...TO RAGE"

Orlando Rage quarterback, PeeJay Jack
didn't have long to revel in his post-championship glory after guiding the
Rage to their first SSFL championship on April 26. His phone rang from St.
Charles, Missouri, and on the other end was Head Coach Ken Stills.
Ironically, of the River City RAGE. It seems that the indoor Rage were
looking for a quarterback FAST.
PeeJay was flown up to St. Charles on Thursday, May 8, to work out with the
United Indoor Football League's Rage and found himself playing Saturday, two
days after reporting to the club, in the first half. In fact, three plays
into PeeJay's tenure as the River City Rage's quarterback he scored a
touchdown scrambling in over the left side of the line.
Unfortunately for the Rage (3-6) their opponent, the Sioux Falls Storm
(7-2), proved too strong for them to overcome. Look for PeeJay next week as
the RC Rage travel to Colorado to take on the Ice before returning home on
May 31st.
PeeJay's departure to the coveted "next level" marks the most recent of well
over a dozen former Rage players who have made the step up to the
professional ranks starting with kicker, Michael Vaughn in 2002. In addition
the Orlando Rage can boast another dozen or so who have been placed into
college programs throughout the United States.
"We don't talk about placing these guys into programs; we do it!"
commented Rage owner Christopher H. Morrison about the Rage's history of
promoting players into college and professional programs. "I hear a lot of
teams talking about placing players, but our staff actually has the
experience and contacts to do it. And we have consistently done it" Morrison
went on.
Look for updates on additional players coming up soon as the Rage anticipate
even more signings in the near future.

Rage SHOCK
SHARKS IN SEMI'S
The last seeded Orlando Rage, traveled to St Petersburg to challenge the
number one seed Sharks in the SSFL 2008 Semi-Final game on Saturday, April
12, 2008. All "prognosticators" had the Sharks as the winner and vying for
their fifth SSFL Championship as the Sharks swept the Rage in the regular
season first 42 to 21, then 19 to 16.
The Rage, however, did not believe all of the press and stunned the Sharks
by soundly defeating them 38 to 0.
"We developed a game-plan that we thought would work based on our
familiarity of the Sharks" commented Rage head coach, Leonard Opheim.
"Apparently it worked" Opheim added.
The Rage got on top of the Sharks early with QB PeeJay Jack tossing two
touchdown passes to WR Preston McGann and running one in in the first half.
At the half it was Rage 21, Sharks 0.
Recalling the 2007 Semi-Final game when the Sharks came back fro a two-score
deficit, the Rage were not content to sit on a three-score lead and poured
it on in the second half with another touchdown pass and catch between Jack
and McGann, at run by RB Michael Rivers and a field goal by Michael Kidd.
The Rage will square off against the Sarasota Millionaires at Orlando's
Florida Citrus Bowl on April 26, 2008.

Rage
(FINALLY) FINISH REGULAR SEASON
In what turned out to be a disappointing season, coming off of back-to-back
10 and 0 seasons, the 2008 Orlando Rage finished their regular season with
only three wins losing to the Ft. Pierce Fire 18 to 14. This marks the first
and only losing season since the inception of the Rage (nea Starz) in 2000.
"We finished the season strong with three wins and close losses to the
(Number 1 Seed) Sharks and (Number 2 Seed) Fire" commented Rage head coach
Leonard Opheim. "Maybe we can pull it all together for the play offs" Opheim
went on.
And "pull it all together" is the task for the Rage as they will travel to
St. Pete to take on the five-time SSFL champion Sharks on Saturday, April
12th. The winner of that game will play the winner of the Millionaires vs.
Fire game in the SSFL Championship on April 26th at Orlando's Citrus
Bowl.

Rage Defeat
Millionaires in Final Home-Game of Season
In what has been an up and down season for the Rage, on Saturday, March 29th
the Rage completed their Home Regular Season on a good note by defeating the
Sarasota Millionaires 37 to 22.
The Rage got off to a quick start when Rage DB Jerome Lowery scooped up a
Millionaires' fumble and scrambled 30 yards for a touchdown. Later in the
first half, Rage K Michael Kidd hit a 35 yard field goal making the score 10
to 0.
The most exciting play of the first half occurred when Rage QB PeeJay Jack
hit WR Preston McGann on a screen pass and McGann raced 85 yards to score.
Rage 17, Millionaires 0 at the half.
Not to be denied, the Millionaires struck early in the second half on a long
pass-and-run play. Rage 17, Millionaires 6.
On the ensuing kick off the Millionaires ball-carrier fumbled and McGann,
again on the spot, scooped up the ball and scored. Rage 24, Millionaires 6.
Rage running backs, James Andrews and Michael Rivers each scored touchdowns
in the second half making the score 37 to 6. The Millionaires scored two
late touchdowns, but they proved to be "too little, too late". Final score
Rage 37, Millionaires 22.
The Rage will finish their 2008 season on Saturday, April 5, 2008, as they
travel to Ft. Pierce. Having clinched a play off berth, the Fire game is
important for play off seeding.

Rage POUND
THUNDER
On Saturday the Rage squared off against the Florida Thunder at Raymond
Screws Stadium on the campus of West Orange High School with a special kick
off time of 1 o'clock.
The Rage drew first blood capping a long drive with a one-yard touchdown
plunge by QB, and game MVP, PeeJay Jack. The Rage finished the first half
scoring an additional two touchdowns; one on a Jack to WR Preston McGann
pass for 25 yards and another when Rage RB Willie Bennett bulldozed in from
the two yardline, making the score 21 to 0 at the half.
In the second half the Rage continued their scoring with a 38 yard field
goal by K Michael Kidd, a seven yard touchdown run by RB Eddie Washington
and another Jack-to-McGann touchdown pass.
Highlights from the second half included two touchdowns by the Thunder; one
on a 65 yard "long bomb" and another on a spectacular kick off return for
the score. And for the Rage two interceptions by LB Mike Kici and an onside
kick attempt that Kici scooped up and ambled to the Thunder "red zone".
Next week the Rage host the Sarasota Millionaires before traveling to Ft.
Pierce to finish the regular season. Having clinched a play off berth the
next two games are crucial for play off seeding.

Rage Drop
Thriller to Sharks
In a game reminiscent of the 2007 season the outcome of the Orlando Rage and
St. Pete Sharks game was not determined until the final whistle.
In 2007, the teams met twice in the regular season and once in the
Conference Championship and all three match ups were decided on the last
play of the game; a field goal in over time, a blocked field goal as time
expired and a last second field goal. The three games were decided by a
TOTAL of 5 points.
The Sharks took an early lead in the first quarter after QB Nick Kirby
connected with WR Steven Douglas for a touchdown on a crucial fourth down
play. Sharks 6, Rage 0.
The Rage then managed a short field turnover and Rage RB James Andrews
finished the 8 yard drive with a touchdown. Later in the quarter Rage QB
PeeJay Jack hooked up with WR Preston McGann for a touchdown. Rage 13,
Sharks 6 at the half.
The Sharks took the
second half kick off and drove the length of the field for the tying score.
Rage 13, Sharks 13. In turn the Rage drove the field but settled for a field
goal making the score Rage 16, Sharks 13. The Sharks then battled back and
managed a long drive topped off with a fourth down score making the score
Sharks 19, Rage 16 with seven minutes left in the game.
The Rage got good field position on a long kick off return by Rage DB/KR
Jeremy Lowery, placing the ball on the Rage 45 yard line. Next in a series
of Rage runs and passes, the Rage found themselves in tying field goal range
with 20 seconds left in the game. The Rage were to take one last stab at the
end zone before settling for the tying field goal and going into overtime.
Rage QB PeeJay Jack was flushed out of the pocket and threw the ball on the
run only to have it intercepted on the one yard line, sealing the Sharks'
victory.
With the thrilling finish, the Rage/Sharks became an instant classic and
will be remembered by Rage and Sharks players and fans for years.

RAGE FINALLY
GET ON TRACK
The Orlando Rage finally managed a win Saturday night as they played host to
the National Public Safety Football League, Orlando Guardians. The Rage had
gone 0 and 4 in the season dropping their home opener then going on the road
for three straight games. The "Homecoming" was just what the Rage needed as
they out-scored the Guardians 19 to 6.
"This win is just what we needed", commented Rage head coach Leonard Opheim.
"Now we've got three more home games in a row; this win is the first step to
finishing strong and heading to the play offs." Opheim went on.
The Rage are idle this week before hosting the Thunder on March 8, the
Sharks on March 15 and the Millionaires on March 29. The regular season will
culminate on April 5 at Fort Pierce.
The Sharks Home game will take place on March 15 at COLONIAL HIGH SCHOOL,
Kick Off at 7:05 PM.

RAGE REMAIN
WINLESS
The Orlando Rage traveled to Sarasota's Clelend Stadium to take on the
then-winless Millionaires on Saturday, February 16. As both teams were
winless going into the match-up, one team had to emerge as a winner and the
other would remain in the unenvied "winless" spot. Unfortunately for the
Rage, they were the team on the losing end as the Millionaires defeated them
26 to 24.
The loss marks the Rage's fourth in a row in SSFL play and a stunning
contrast to last season's 12 and 2 record.
The Rage hope to turn the season around as they will be home for the next
four games; hosting the Guardians, Thunder, Sharks and the Millionaires,
before traveling to Ft. Pierce to take on the Fire in the final
regular-season game of the 2008 SSFL season.
Look for the Rage to get back on track for the play offs in April.

RAGE LOSE
THIRD-STRAIGHT
The Orlando Rage traveled to St. Petersburg's Bartlett Park to face the
Florida Thunder. The Rage and Thunder are very familier with one-another as
they squared off in the first annual YMCA Bowl in November and Thunder Head
Coach, Louis Briggins, was the Rage Defensive Coordinator for 3 years before
taking over the reigns of the Thunder.
The Thunder overwhelmed the Rage by a score of 28 to 7. Despite the score,
the game was a defensive struggle as the Rage's sole score was on a blocked
field goal that Rage Defensive Back, Larry Preston scooped up and ran 70
yards for the score. Two of the Thunder touchdowns came on interceptions
returned for scores and Thunder place-kicker, Chad Greatorex, accounted for
two field goals.
The loss to the Thunder marks the Rage's third in the regular-season
bringing their record to 0 and 3. The Rage hope to get on track this week as
they travel to Sarasota to take on the yet-to-win Millionaires.

RAGE
DEFEATED BY SHARKS
On Saturday, February 2, 2008, Orlando Rage headed on the road to take on
the St. Petersburg Sharks. In the 2007 season the Rage and Sharks faced
one-another twice in the regular season and once in the conference
championship. The total point differential in the three match-ups was five.
The 2008 Rage hoped to continue the rivalry. Unfortunately for the Rage the
Sharks showed why they were the pre-season favorites in the League soundly
defeating the Rage by a score of 42 to 21.
Stellar quarterback play of Sharks QB, Nick Kirby, who threw four touchdown
passes and the Sharks' receiving corps of Joshua McKinnon and Phillip
Webster overwhelmed the Rage defense, while the Rage offense continued to
struggle to attain last season's performance.
"Every time we'd get on track and score; making it a game, the Sharks would
answer with a quick-strike" stated Rage Head Coach, Leonard Opheim. "We had
to play catch-up the whole game, it seemed", Opheim went on.
The loss to the Sharks marks the Rage's second in the regular-season
bringing their record to 0 and 2. The Rage hope to get on track this week as
they travel to Tampa to take on the Florida Thunder.

RAGE DROP
OPENER TO FIRE

On Saturday, January 26, 2008, Orlando Rage commenced their 2008 campaign
under the tutelage of new Head Coach, Leonard Opheim and at their new venue
of Raymond Screws Stadium at the campus of West Orange High School. The new
combination didn't seem to have the chemistry that the Rage had hoped for as
they lost by the score of 17 to 6.
Offensive miscues and lack of execution by the Rage, as well as a stiff and
determined Fire Offense proved the Rage's undoing. The Rage offense failed
to take advantage of numerous trips to the "red zone" leaving it scoreless
after three early penetrations. The Fire, however, executed well in the "red
zone".
"We surely had our opportunities" commented Rage Head Coach, Leonard Opheim,
about the Rage's failure to score points when getting within the Fire twenty
yardline. "Twice stupid penalties took us out (of the Red Zone), and twice
our play choice along with poorly executed plays did us in" Opheim went on.
The defensive-minded Opheim was brought on board to strengthen the Rage
defense and while doing so, the Rage offense seemed to have slipped. "We
tinkered around with a new (offensive) system and proved it doesn't work.
We're going back to the old system from here on out" commented Opheim. The
"old system" that coach Opheim referred to accounted for the second-most
points per game in the 2007 season and out scored Rage opponents in 2007.
This week the Rage travel to the St. Petersburg Sharks, whose offense put up
over 50 points last week. "We really will need to score often and a lot to
keep up with the Sharks' offense" Opheim concluded.

RAGE DROP FINAL TUNE-UP
IN PRE-SEASON
Fort Pierce, Florida
January 19, 2008
On January 18, 2008, the Rage traveled to Fort Pierce to play in the
invitation only, National Bowl Weekend. The National Bowl Weekend consisted
of five games played on Saturday and Sunday by teams from all over the
United States. The first on the slate, the Palm Bowl, pitted the Rage
against the Georgia Xtreme out of Cobb County, Georgia.
The "X-Men", as they are dubbed, winding up their successful season in the
United Southern Football League, proved too powerful for the Rage soundly
defeating the Rage by a score of 20 to 5.
"It was a good opportunity to get one final evaluation of our players;
namely the rookies, before the season starts next week." Commented Rage Head
Coach, Leonard Opheim. As in its three prior pre-season games, the Rage
coaching staff experimented with a number of different schemes and personnel
trying to fine tune the team for the season. "Again, nearly all of our 60
plus players on the roster got extensive playing time'" commented Rage Vice
President, Chris Morrison. "But a loss is still a loss; it hurts. " Morrison
went on.
Look for the Rage to open their 2008 SSFL season on January 26, 2008, at
their new venue, Raymond Screws Stadium on the campus of West Orange High

Thoroughbreds STAMPEDE RAGE
Winter Park, Florida
January 7, 2008
The Orlando Rage
completed their third and final Pre-Season Exhibition Game Saturday night at
Lake Mary Preparatory School in Lake Mary, Florida, by suffering a loss to
the SEFL Champion Central Florida Thoroughbreds 30 to 14. The T'breds showed
why they are the 2-time reigning SEFL champs by effectively shutting down
the Rage offense and moving the ball against the Rage defense.
"Although it was only a
pre-season game, it had a play off atmosphere" commented Rage owner, Chris
Morrison about the game. "Both teams played with vigor and the better team
that night clearly prevailed", Morrison went on.
The T'breds scheduled
one more pre season game versus the 2007 SSFL Champs (and pre-season FFA
favorite) Miami Magic City Bulls during the weekend of January 11. That game
promises to be a shoot out. Meanwhile, the Rage will regroup with the coming
weekend off in preparation for the National Bowl Weekend on January 19, when
they square off against the Georgia Xtreme.

new relationship.

Rage SOUNDLY DEFEAT
Daytona beach Vikings; LOOK TO HOST CENTRAL FLORIDA THOROUGHBREDS
NEXT

Winter Park, Florida
December 30, 2007
The Orlando
Rage completed the second of three pre-season games Saturday when they
traveled to Derbyshire Park in Daytona Beach to take on the Daytona Beach
Vikings. The Vikings, a new franchise in the Florida Football Alliance (FFA)
ended up getting a taste of what lies ahead when the season kicks off. The
Rage won the match up by a score of 54 to 19.
The Rage
started their scoring after an interception by Rage DB Ned Raines set them
up on the one yard line. Rage QB PeeJay Jack pounded the ball across the
goalline for the touchdown. Rage K Michael Kidd (who went 6 for 6 in
PAT's) made the extra point. Rage 7, Vikes 0. Later in the first quarter
Rage RB Levi Raines scampered 35 yards for a touchdown. Rage 14, Vikes 0.
The Rage then scored
four more times in the first half on a pair of long touchdown passes from
Jack to WR's Theo "Snoop" Chatman and to Andre Raines, a magnificent kick
off return by Andre Raines and a when Rage FB Willie Bennett bulldozed in
from the Vikings' 3 yardline. Rage 41, Vikes 13 at the half.
The Rage continued
their scoring in the second half by putting two more touchdowns on the board
with a touchdown reception by Rage WR Donald Orelus and a run by RB Levi
Raines. The final score was Rage 54, Vikings 19.
"The Viking, Coach
McCoy and the whole Viking staff were great hosts and run a very good
program; especially for a first year team" stated Rage owner and seasoned
veteran of Minor League Football, Chris Morrison
of their host. "I'd travel to Derbyshire (Park) anytime to play the Vikings.
It was a good experience for everyone" Morrison went on.
And
experience the Rage players got. The Rage was able to play its entire roster
of over 60 players and was able to evaluate many of them in game situations.
Stand outs for
the Vikings were the entire Offensive Line who played seemingly every down,
Vikings WR 15 Alford Staten and QB 8 Michael Broudreau who played gallantly
throughout the game.
Next for the Rage are
the Central Florida Thoroughbreds, reigning SEFL and National Champions.

Rage to HOST CENTRAL
FLORIDA THOROUGHBREDS in Exhibition Game
Winter Park, Florida
December 23, 2007
The Orlando
Rage will play host to the Central Florida Thoroughbreds on January 5, 2008
in inter-League Exhibition Game. The Thoroughbreds are the reigning
champions of the Southeast Football League based in Florida. The SEFL has
historically fielded strong minor league teams and in recent years the
T'Breds have been one of the marquis franchises in the League.
"Playing the
Thoroughbreds will be a good yardstick to measure us against other Leagues"
stated Rage head coach, Leonard Opheim about the upcoming event.
The January
5 Exhibition game will mark the second of four non-SSFL games slated
for this year. The Rage took on the Daytona Beach Vikings on December 29,
2007; will be playing in the Florida Bowl on January 19th against an
out-of-state team; they will play host to the Central Florida Guardians of
the USPSL in February and will host the Winter Park YMCA-"Safe Start" Bowl
game in May.

Rage Launch College "Blitz"

Winter Park, Florida
November 1, 2007
Demonstrating once again its commitment to assisting athletes to reach
the "Next Level" the Orlando Rage Coaches and Management are launching a
campaign to introduce its players to various college, university and
professional programs. "We have a proven track record in getting our
players into real programs; whether they be JuCo [Junior College], Club
Programs or Pro's" commented Rage Vice President, Chris Morrison about the
campaign. "In fact, we're even getting calls from players on other Minor
League teams seeking our assistance. And we're more than happy to oblige"
Morrison went on.
Since the Rage's modest beginnings in 2000 as the then-Orlando Starz of
the defunct United Football League of Florida, the Rage has placed well
over two dozen former Rage (or Starz) players , as well as "non-Rage"
athletes into various college and professional programs throughout the
nation.
When asked if placing the "best of the best" into programs detracts from
the Rage's talent, Rage Director of Player/Personnel, Randy Horn
volunteered "Yes, loosing the best players from our roster hurts in the
short-run. But word gets out as to who's promoting players [to the next
level] and more and better players report to Rage camp. They know that we
can assist them".
And this year the Rage added additional personnel to support the campaign.
Head Coach Leonard Opheim, Offensive coordinator Emory Blake and former
Denver Bronco, Cornelious Friendly all have been working overtime to
initiate communications with programs throughout the country.
If you are a player interested in "showcasing" your talent to the "Next
Level", please contact
Rage management.
We'll have a look at you and determine which program you'll best fit into.

RAGE Dominate Nightwolves in Exhibition Game
|
|

Marco
Island, Florida
November 10, 2007
On Saturday, November 10, 2007, the 2008 version of the Orlando Rage
squared off against the Florida Nightwolves (Thunder) in the much
anticipated "Inaugural YMCA Bowl" hosted by the city of Marco Island and
the YMCA. The Nightwolves are currently renamed the Thunder to accommodate
the newest professional franchise started by Thunder/Nightwolves owner
Warren Watts.
When the Rage booked the game in August they knew that it would be more
than simply an exhibition game as it was dubbed. "There was more at stake
than a pre-season game" stated Rage rookie head coach, Leonard Opheim.
"The entire state of Florida was watching us" Opheim went on referring to
the historic success of the Rage and the anticipated continued success
within the state of Florida.
"What's more" added Rage Vice President, Chris Morrison, "Lou (Briggins,
former Rage defensive Coordinator and current Thunder Head Coach) knows
our schemes and personnel and can really coach up a team."
The Rage got started early scoring on the second play from scrimmage on a
51 yard touchdown pass from QB PeeJay Jack to WR Andre Raines. The extra
point from K Michael Kidd made it 7 to 0 early in the game.
On the Rage's next drive, Rage RB and game MVP Levi Raines, Jr.,
scored on a seven yard run making the score 14 to 0. The drive was
highlighted by a long pass from QB Brandon Blake to Andre Raines, setting
up the Levi Raines touchdown.
The Rage wrapped up the first half scoring when Rage LB Norman Beatty
wrapped up the Thunder QB in the endzone for a safety.
Rage 16, Thunder 0 at the half.
The Thunder came out hungry in the second half, determined to make it a
game. Thunder QB "Lucky" Lyons connected with WR Tommie Thigpen for a
touchdown making the score 16 to 6. But the Rage matched the score on a
time-consuming drive resulting in another Levi Raines score; Rage 23,
Thunder 6. Finally, in the fourth quarter Rage QB PeeJay Jack capped off
the Rage scoring with a short touchdown run brining the score to 30 to 6.
The Thunder were not ready to throw in the towel and came out slinging.
Thunder QB Lyons again connected with a receiver, Michael Youngblood for a
touchdown. Final score, Rage 30, Thunder 12.
"I couldn't have imagined a better weekend for the YMCA Bowl" commented
Morrison. "The support from the city of Marco Island, the YMCA and just
the fans, and an opportunity to play against a first-class organization
like the Thunder; this is what Minor League football is all about."
Many thanks to all of the volunteers who made the game possible.

RAGE START FULL
CONTACT PRACTICE
October 16, 2007
Orlando, Florida
On
Sunday, October 14, 2007, the ORLANDO RAGE held their first Full-Contact
practice at the Rage practice facility at Colonial High School in Orlando
Florida. As happens every year the first day of pads re-introduced the players
to full speed and full contact action. Needless to say there was some
"Head-Butting".
The Rage opened camp early this year in efforts to gear up for the First Annual
YMCA Bowl being hosted by the NFL Alumni Association and the City of Marco
Island on November 10th; some two-plus month before the SSFL season kicks on on
January 26, 2008.
The Rage hold open practices on Saturdays at 1 pm and Sundays at 2 pm at
Colonial High School until the YMCA Bowl. Thereafter they will cut back to one
practice per week until January, 2008.

RAGE "KICK OFF"
2007/2008 PRACTICE
Orlando, Florida
September 30, 2007
On Saturday, September 29, 2007, the
Orlando Rage "Kicked Off" its practice for the upcoming 2008 season in the SSFL.
"This year our season was moved forward almost two months" commented head coach,
Leonard Opheim referring to the first annual "YMCA BOWL" game scheduled for
November 10 against the Florida Nightwolves. The "YMCA BOWL" is an exhibition
game hosted by the city of Marco Island and is slated to take place more than
two months before the opening of the SSFL season on January 26, 2008. "We had to
move our entire schedule forward to accommodate the timing of the YMCA BOWL",
Opheim added.
And "move their entire schedule forward" the Rage, in fact did. Opening practice
this past Saturday. Their schedule until the upcoming event calls for practice
on every Saturday at 9 am and Sundays at 2 pm until November 10th. What's more,
the Rage will begin full contact drills on October 14th, a week earlier than
initially planned and well over a month earlier than in past seasons.
"We're traveling down to Marco Island in early November to play a regulation
game against the new-franchise, Florida Nightwolves", Rage Vice President,
Christopher Morrison stated. "And knowing [Head] coach Briggins as well as I do;
and Lou knowing us as well as he does means that we have to be well-organized
and in good shape for the game" Morrison went on. Rage fans know the Nightwolves'
head coach Louis Briggins very well as coach Briggins left his job as defensive
coordinator with the Rage to take on head coach duties for the'Wolves.
Look for the Rage to bring on another season of hard-hitting, NFL rules football
in the SSFL in January, 2008. |

RAGE OPEN TRY
OUTS GARNER FUTURE SSFL "ALL STARS"
Winter Park, Florida
September 17, 2007
The ORLANDO RAGE held its
first two of four scheduled open Try Outs on September 8, and 15, 2007, at Lake
Island Park in downtown Winter Park.
"The turnout, both in
numbers and quality of talent, far exceeded the years in the past" commented
Rage first-year head coach Leonard Opheim of the first two events. "I've seen
more talent in the past two try outs than in all of the previous years' try outs
combined", Opheim went on.
And, given
the numbers, Rage management has elected to cancel the fourth try out scheduled
for September 29 and head straight into practice. Rather than holding a fourth
try out the "2008 Rage Campaign" will commence with practice. Rage practices
will "Kick Off" at 9 am on Saturday, September 29, 2007, at Collegiate Village
Inn practice field (11850 University Blvd, Orlando 32817). Practices are open to
all players who participated in any of the 2007 Open Try Outs. For a complete
practice schedule

Practices will continue on Saturdays at 9 am
and Sundays at 2 pm until the Orlando Rage vs. Florida Nightwolves Exhibition
game on November 10th. Thereafter practices will continue on Saturdays ONLY
until January.

RAGE FIRST OPEN
TRY OUT A HUGE SUCCESS
The ORLANDO RAGE held its
first of four open Try Outs on September 8, 2007, at Lake Island Park in
downtown Winter Park. As anticipated, there was a tremendous turnout of an
estimated over 60 "Rookies" and numerous veterans all vying for a roster spot on
the 2008 Orlando Rage.
"The first try out of
each season is always interesting; we get a lot of zealous Rookies and
some veterans as well as a number of interested non-participants just "sizing it
up", I guess" stated Rage owner, Chris Morrison. "Historically, it's the second
or third try out that garners the big numbers, but this year there was an
unusual number of participants. Word is getting out about the quality and
caliber of the franchise", Morrison went on.
With their first test
less than 60 days away when the '08 edition of the Rage travel to Naples to play
an exhibition game against the Nightwolves, the Rage have their work cut out for
them in signing players and getting camp running.
"I'm confident that we
have the right staff to shake the rust off of the veterans and to initiate the
Rookies for the upcoming season" commented first-year head coach Leonard Opheim.

SCHEDULE EXHIBITION GAMES
Orlando, Florida
August 9, 2007
The Orlando Rage
has set its annual Red/Blue intrasquad scrimmage, and
has tentatively set two Exhibition Games in preparation
for the upcoming season.
In addition, the Rage have accepted an invitation to
play in the annual "National Bowl Weekend" in January,
immediately preceding the Kick Off of the 2008 SSFL
Season.
Annually the Rage hold an open "Red/Blue" scrimmage
pitting the Rage Offense against the Rage Defense in a
controlled scrimmage in order to evaluate the rookie
players. This year the annual event is scheduled for
December 23rd.
This year the Rage have also accepted an invitation to
participate in an event sponsored by the NFL Alumni
Association, United Way and the Naples/Marco Island
YMCA. The Naples/Marco Island YMCA suggested SSFL
involvement in a fund raising event of a Minor League
Pre Season Football game for 2007 and SSFL Commissioner,
Dave Rice, jumped at the opportunity.
"The YMCA's dedication to fostering "healthy kids,
healthy families and healthy communities" is synonymous
with the goals of the SSFL, so it's a perfect match,"
suggested Rice. Hence, the commissioner has been working
overtime to organize the event. The game and weekend
festivities are scheduled for November 10, 2007
featuring SSFL, Florida Nightwolves and Orlando Rage
playing an afternoon pre season game in the Naples-Marco
Island, Florida area.
Plans include pre game introductions and photo
opportunities with local children, community leaders,
former NFL players, radio, TV, newspaper coverage, half
time entertainment, cheerleaders, and a post game Pig
Roast and Barbecue for the community to meet the players
and team staffs. "The SSFL is honored to be invited to
take part in this event. 'Service above Self' in
making for better communities has always been a major
goal of every SSFL team", noted Rice.
Also, the Vikings, an independent,
Semi-Pro football team based in Daytona Beach, Florida,
have "challenged" the Rage to an exhibition game in
December. The Rage and Vikings have tentatively set the
game for December 29th in Orlando. Specifics as to time
and location have not yet been set.
Finally, the Rage will travel to Ft. Pierce's Lawnwood Stadium on
January 19, 2008, to play in the annual "National Bowl Weekend". The
"National Bowl Weekend" pits SSFL teams against out-of-state teams
each year. This year the SSFL Rage and the host Ft. Pierce Fire will
take on teams from out-of-state yet to be announced. Make plans to
attend as it's always a good measuring stick as to how well the SSFL
stacks up against other teams.
* The Orlando Rage
have accepted an invitation to play in a Pre-Season Exhibition Game
in November. This moves the Rage's schedule up substantially. As
such the Rage staff will be offering contracts to players AT
TRY-OUTS! |

Launch Media "Blitz" in Anticipation of 2008 Season
Orlando, Florida
August 12, 2007
The
Orlando Rage have entered into business relations with "740 The
Team" Radio and AdVantage Indoor Advertising to "blitz" the Orlando
area market and are negotiating for live radio broadcasts and taped
delayed television broadcasts for the upcoming 2008 SSFL season.
"The problem with Minor-League ball in Orlando is that no one seems
to know we even exist" stated Rage Vice President, Christopher
Morrison. "We've been in existence for more than seven years and
still almost daily I have someone tell me 'I never even knew you
were around'" Morrison went on.
Well the Rage intend to put an end to that dilemma for the upcoming
season as print ads covering all of central Florida have already
been placed for the Rage annual Open Try Outs and Training Camp in
September and radio ads should be coming on August 16th. "We hope to
get the word out for the upcoming season so that people can enjoy
the entertaining and fan-friendly SSFL-style football. And print and
radio seem to be the most efficient and wide-reaching media for
this" Morrison further offered.
Not
only is the Rage "going to the press", but they are also in
negotiation with local radio stations to broadcast all home and away
games live and with television to broadcast home games in taped
delay.
Listen to "740 The Team" radio and keep an eye out for the print
media in the coming weeks and months.

DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR TAKES HEAD COACH JOB With NightWolves
Orlando, Florida
August 2, 2007
Orlando Rage Defensive Coordinator, Louis Briggins, has resigned his
position with the Orlando Rage to accept the Head Coach position
with the Florida Nightwolves. The Nightwolves, entering their second
year of existence, are one of the newest franchises in the SSFL.
"Lou will be missed by the organization", stated Rage Vice
President, Chris Morrison of Briggins. "He's been an integral part
of the staff during his four year tenure with us; it's hard to find
the quality of coach that Lou demonstrated. Lou gave one hundred
percent at every practice, game and Rage function. He's surely
irreplaceable!", Morrison went on.
Rage fans will know coach Briggins from his firey displays of
enthusiasm on the Rage sideline, often motivating his "Goon Squad"
defense to new heights. In addition to his duties as Defensive
Coordinator, Briggins acted as strength and conditioning coach for
the Rage.
But
that's not the last that the Rage will see of Briggins. As head
coach of the Nightwolves, we're sure to see coach Briggins working
the sidelines opposite the Rage in the upcoming season. Best of luck
to Coach Briggins.

"It's a

While he

interest in the job comes from his own background. He was a
four-year soccer letterman at Rockledge High and became one of the
first scholarship players at Brevard Community College. He went on
to get degrees for nutrition and chiropractic at Life University in
Marietta, Ga.
"I also grew
up playing summer league baseball," Berthiaume said. "This is just
another way to be involved with the community."
He will leave
the center on July 10. What happens after that will be determined by
his work during his two weeks there.
The USOC
evaluates medical professionals doctors based on their abilities,
rapport with athletes and record of following policy guidelines. The
second step on the road to the top is a national or international
appointment, for example, working a sport's national championship.
The third is an appointment to work with athletes at an
international event, which could include the Pan American Games or
World University Games.
Finally, the
USOC will select medical personnel for the Olympic Games and
Paralympic Games. Those chosen receive an eight-week appointment.
For
Berthiaume, that would be the fulfillment of a personal dream.
"I was
inspired to be an Olympic athlete, but injuries and other things
prevented it. I aspired to be involved with Team USA Soccer," he
said. "This is kind of my last chance to be a part of the Olympic
team, and it's kind of neat to be associated with athletes of this
caliber."
The trip to
Colorado Springs is not the first plunge into working with advanced
athletes for Berthiaume. He has been affiliated with the Orlando
Rage of the Southern States Football League and has an interest in
working with the NFL.
That
experience helped him qualify for the USOC opportunity, as did his
commitment.
"You also
have to be a team chiropractor or head team physician for three or
more years," Berthiaume said. "I've spent seven years with the same
organization."
Nearly two
years ago, he interviewed with the NFL Players Association to
qualify to be a non-union chiropractor in the league, and he has
contacted the Jacksonville Jaguars. |

|
Garnell Rackley, currently Offensive
Coordinator of the Orange County Falcons of the Southeast Football
League, has been tapped into the Minor League Football Hall of Fame,
Class of 2007.
Garnell started his Minor-League journey with the Space Coast
Panthers who molded into the Orlando Rage in 2002. Thereafter he
played with the Rage where he stood out as an excellent receiver and
team leader. In 2003, Garnell garnered the Rage's highest honor when
he received the Joel Crane Award.
Thereafter Garnell was the major motivating force in bringing Minor
League Football to Lake County, Florida, as one of the founders of
the then-Lake County Hornets and in getting the City of Leesburg to
host an Exhibition Game between the Rage and the Venice Vikings of
the SSFL.
Congratulations

SSFL RECEIVES PRE SEASON GAME INVITATION
The SSFL, as Associate Member of the NFL Alumni
Association, has supported the NFL's relationship with the United Way and its
community organizations. When United Way member, the YMCA, suggested SSFL
involvement in a fund raising event of a Minor League Pre Season Football game,
immediate interest and support by the SSFL was received. The YMCA's dedication
to fostering "healthy kids, healthy families and healthy communities" is
synonymous with the goals of the SSFL. The event is scheduled for November 10,
2007 featuring 2 SSFL teams playing an afternoon pre season game at a site to be
determined in the Naples-Marco Island, Florida area. The teams that have
volunteered to participate are the Fort Myers Spartans and the Florida
Nightwolves.

Plans include pre game introductions and photo
opportunities with local children, community leaders, former NFL players, radio,
TV, newspaper coverage, half time entertainment, cheerleaders, and a post game
Pig Roast and Barbecue for the community to meet the players and team staffs.
"The SSFL is honored to be invited to take part in this
event. 'Service above Self' in making for better communities has always
been a major goal of every SSFL team", noted Commissioner Dave Rice.
Details to follow.

RAGE HIRE NEW HEAD
COACH
After the retirement of Head Coach Steve Casteel, Rage management
have opted to hire Leonard Opheim as Head Coach for the Orlando Rage
2008 season. Opheim was chosen from a large list of applicants. "It was
a very difficult decision" stated Rage Vice President, Chris Morrison,
referring to the decision to hire Opheim, "So many really qualified
candidates made application." But it was Opheim's familiarity with the
Rage, having been an assistant coach with them for 2001 through 2006,
that gave him the advantage.
Steve Casteel took over head coaching duties for the Rage between the
2001 and 2002 seasons. Casteel led the Rage from an upstart franchise in
the now-defunct UFL where the Rage squeaked out a 4 and 6 schedule to
winning the Division Crown three times and playing in the Conference
Championship Game in three of the last four seasons. Coach Casteel's
hard work and dedication will be surely missed.
To replace Casteel, the Rage brought back defensive-minded former Rage
Defensive Coordinator, Leonard Opheim. Opheim, who was with the Rage in
its infancy, brings his vast "X's and O's" knowledge of the game as well
as his innovative coaching style.
Also, receiving a promotion to Assistant Head Coach and returning for
the 2008 season is Defensive Coordinator and Strength and Conditioning
Coach, Louis Briggins. Offensive-minded Jim Molnar has also "re-upped"
for the 2008 campaign.
Although the coaching staff has changed a little look for the same Rage
in the 2008 season starting in January, as they take on the best that
Minor League Football has to offer in the Southern States Football
League. |

ORLANDO RAGE AND FORT
PIERCE FIRE ENTER INTO NEGOTIATIONS WITH FOX SPORTS NETWORK

The
Orlando Rage and the Fort Pierce Fire of the Southern States Football
League (SSFL) have entered into preliminary negotiations with producers
of a Fox Sports Network (FSN) television program to license the Rage and
the Fire for use in its series. The program is yet to be named, but FSN
is seeking to produce and air a television series about Minor League
Football including "how to" instructional information.
"I am truly honored just to be
considered given that there must be hundreds of Minor League or Semi Pro
teams throughout the country," stated Chris Morrison of the Rage. "I
hope it's because they see the quality of the product we're producing
that drew them to us," Morrison went on.
The Orlando Rage is the first
Minor League Football team in the country to enter into a television
contract and has taken strides to improve the concept of Minor League
Football throughout the country. In addition, the Rage has a proven
track record for placing players into the ranks of the pros and college
programs. "I guess their hard-work and devotion to the game is beginning
to pay off for [the Rage]" said SSFL Commissioner Dave Rice of the new
development.
The Orlando Rage is scheduled to
"kick off" its 2008 campaign in September with try outs leading into the
2008 SSFL season.
"Stay Tuned" for more details as
they develop.

OVERTIME GAME

proved to be the lucky number for the Magic City Bulls of Miami as they
defeated the National Conference Champions the St. Petersburg Sharks in
the 7th Annul SSFL Rice Bowl. The game held on Saturday, May 5 in
the 75,000 seat Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium in Orlando was a game to
remember. The two "heavyweight" teams were evenly matched and
finished in a 10 - 10
tie at the end of regulation. The
SSFL plays NFL Rules and as such the game went into a sudden death
overtime period. The final and deciding score was a spectacular TD
run by the games offensive MVP, Johnny "Lightning" Johnson, a 4 time
SSFL player.
Said Commissioner Dave
Rice, "These two teams and coaching staffs have great respect for each
other and
played their hearts out. It was the kind of
game that could have been won at any time by either team. The
Sharks have been SSFL Champions 4 times and although it s a tough loss,
they are the type of competitors that have already vowed to be back -
"same time, same place next year". Sharks Coach, former NFL Great
Ernest Givens, team owner Torry
Gammage and the games Defensive Player of
the Game, Duane Porter speaking on behalf of his teammates echo that
statement.
Bulls Coach Mark Berman,

RAGE PLAYERS WORK ON
"SECOND SEASON"

During the off season Rage
Players and Staff are always looking for something to do. Some of us go
on vacation, others get "reacquainted" to family and friends whom we
neglected during the season. This year, Rage Players PeeJay Jack and
Preston McGann just weren't quite ready to "hang it up" for the year.
PeeJay Jack finished the Rage
season leading the Rage to a 10 and 2 year, NFC North Championship and
Runner-up in the Conference. All this as a "Rookie" quarterback. PeeJay
has many years in the SSFL and a few in the NIFL, but all as wide
receiver. This year the position change seems to have paid off.
PeeJay's talents were noticed
by the AF2 franchise, FLORIDA FIRECATS and PeeJay has been invited to a
private work out with them. Let's look for PeeJay in Ft. Meyers wearing
a Firecats uniform this summer.
Wide Receiver, and rookie to
the SSFL, Preston McGann also caught some eyes. Next month Preston will
be working out with Division I University of Central Florida, trying to
make a roster spot for his final year of eligibility.
Congratulations to Preston and
PeeJay, your hard work is paying off, and BEST OF LUCK TO EACH OF YOU. |

SSFL NAMES BALL BOYS FOR "RICE BOWL"

Each
season the SSFL takes nominations for ball boys for the Championship
"Rice Bowl" Game. This season the Orlando Rage's own, Chris Spoonhour
received a nomination and was awarded the position. We all know Chris
(whose father is OL Robert Spoonhour) as a regular fixture at all Rage
games and practices. Chris proudly dons his #35 jersey and works the
sideline as one of the Rage's ball boys. Chris has even chipped in his
experience as ball boy at away games when the host team is missing one.
Look
for Chris on the sidelines of the SSFL championship game on May 5th at
Florida's Citrus Bowl.
Congratulations to Chris Spoonhour being named an official 2007 Rice
Bowl ball boy. |

"Ensemble Cast" of Rage Players play Exhibition Game against SEFL
Nightwolves
On
Saturday, April 28, the Orlando Rage put together an "Ensemble Cast" of
about 25 players from the 2007 season to play an exhibition game against
the Florida Nightwolves of the SEFL. The Nightwolves, in their
inaugural season with the SEFL are looking to step up to the SSFL for
the 2008 season and head coach Warren Watts wanted to "test the waters".
"This
was a great opportunity for some of the guys to get together and play
some ball in a relaxed environment" said Rage Vice President and wide
receiver, Chris Morrison. "It also was a reward to some of the guys who
didn't get a lot of playing time during the season" Morrison went on.
And
playing time they got! The Rage team had OL Tony Elam playing Defensive
line and doing place-kicking duties. We also saw QB Brad-Ley Exantus
playing tailback, DB Brad Locke covering the punting duties, QB Brad
Lehman catching passes as receiver and "Goon-Squader" Sean Betts taking
reps at Offensive line.
The
most remarkable "crossing of the lines" had WR Theo "Snoop" Chatman
playing cornerback for the entire game and Rage QB PeeJay Jack playing
Defensive End (no, that's not a misprint, Defensive End) for much of the
game.
By all
accounts everyone had a great time.
At the
final gun the Rage won by the score of 12 to 0.
Look
for the Rage to scrimmage the Orlando Guardians of the NPSFL later this
summer. |

FORMER RAGE STAR "GRAPPLES" WITH STARDOM

By now
all Rage fans are used to hearing news about players and former players
getting signed to play professional or collegiate football. But on rare
occasions members of the Rage make their "fame" elsewhere.
Last
season former Rage wide receiver Patrick Flanagan made it big with a
role in "Pirates of the Caribbean II, Curse of the Black Pearl"
and doing stunts for Wolverine in the X Men movies.
This
year former Rage defender Gerald Harris put his athletic skills to work
in his bid for fame and fortune. Gerald signed up with the Wolfpack of
the International Fight League (www.ifl.tv) to compete for the 2006-2007
season. Those of us who knew Gerald well knew him as a calm and quite
contributor to the team always bringing his younger brother to practice
and games. Little did we know what lay beneath his quiet exterior.
Check
out Gerald's debut
International Fight League.
Or if you just want to drop him an e-mail, catch Gerald at
GeraldHarris2@hotmail.com .
Congrat's to Gerald Harris, former Rage defender and current "Fighter". |

Sharks
Defeat Rage with last second Field Goal

On Saturday,
April 21, 2007, the NFC South Champion St. Pete Sharks came to Winter
Park to take on the NFC North Champion Orlando Rage. This marked the
third match up of the pair of the 2007 season; the first two games being
won by the Rage by a total of 5 points. In each of the first two games
Special Teams made the difference.
On January 13,
the Rage won the first match up on a field goal with 7 seconds left in
the overtime period. Then on March 3, the Rage blocked the apparent
game-winning field goal to prevail.
This week it
came down to the last second again and the Sharks managed a field goal
as time expired to win by a score of 27 to 26.
The Sharks
advance to take on the Miami Magic City Bulls for the Championship in
Orlando's Citrus Bowl on May 5, 2007.

"AIR
RAGE" BOMB GENERALS
April 14, 2007
Winter Park, Florida
The Orlando Rage played host to the First Coast Generals on Saturday
night in the NFC North Division Championship game. This was the third
match up of the two franchises this season. In January the Rage managed
a 7 to 0 victory over the Generals, then in March soundly defeated them
40 to 14. The Generals, however, after the March 17 loss to the Rage
came alive and were looking to thwart the Rage's sweep of them. The Rage
were coming off a two week bye.
Apparently the time off helped the Rage as the predominately running
Rage came out throwing. In the first half, Rage QB #15 PeeJay Jack, who
went 17 for 23 and amassing almost 300 yards in the air, hurled two
touchdown passes, the first to WR Donald Orelus and the second to WR
Preston McGann. But Jack wasn't yet finished as he scampered in 25 yards
for a touchdown with four minutes left in the half. Rage 21, Generals 7
at the half.
Just before half time the skies opened up and torrential downpours began
suspending play for about 45 minutes. On a wet and sloppy field and with
a 14 point lead the Rage "Goon Squad" defense took over picking off
Generals veteran QB Steve Mott 5 times and forcing a fumble all the
while shutting out the Generals in the second half.
The Rage offense then played a ball control second half to burn off time
on the clock. Rage K #10 Matt Field knocked a 37 yard field goal through
and Rage QB #18 Mike Logue scored on a quarterback sneak to seal the
victory 31 to 7.
"It's difficult enough to beat the same team twice in one season" stated
Rage Head Coach Steve Casteel of the victory, "but to beat a Steve Mott
lead and Joe Davis coached team borders on impossible".
With this win the Rage take the NFC North crown for the second time in
as many seasons and will host the Sharks this Saturday, April 21. |

PLAY OFFS 2007: BULLS STAMPEDE, MILLIONAIRES CASH IN, SHARKS DEVOUR, AND
RAGE UNLEASH THEIR ANGER
On Saturday night, April 14, 2007, the SSFL Divisional Championship
Games were played reducing the number of suitors for the Rice Bowl
Championship Game to four.
In a 3 o'clock kick off in South Florida, the undefeated Miami Magic
City Bulls keep their streak alive by soundly defeating the Fort Pierce
Fire 34 to 0, to win the AFC Eact crown, while the Millionaires edged
out the Gladiators 8 to 6 to take the AFC West. The Bulls will host the
Millionaires on April 21 for the AFC Championship.
Elsewhere the Sharks blanked the hapless War Eagles 65 to 0 to take the
NFC South while the Rage took home the NFC North Crown by defeating the
Generals 31 to 7. The Rage will host the Sharks this Saturday for the
NFC Championship. |
|
It's Game Time!
With the First
Coast Generals' defeat of the North Florida Rams on April 7th, the NFC
North Division Championship Game is set. On April 14th the 2006 SSFL
Champion Generals will travel to Winter Park, Florida to take on the
Orlando Rage, last year's NFC North Champs.
Last season the
Rage hosted the Generals in the Conference Championship only to have
their season cut short by the defeat at the hands of the Generals who
went on to defeat the Gladiators in the Championship game. The Rage are
looking to exact revenge on the Generals this season. The Generals,
however, after a very slow start in the 2007 campaign have come on
strong of late; defeating the Rams twice in the late season. The
resurgent Generals are looking to deny the Rage again.
Kick off is 7:05
pm at Showalter Field in downtown Winter Park. Tickets are available at
the gate for only $10.

RAGE DEFEAT RAMS IN
SHOOTOUT
The Orlando Rage (9-1) traveled to Jacksonville Saturday night to wrap up their
2007 regular season against the North Florida Rams (5-3-1). The Rams had been
the sole loss of the Rage in their 2007 campaign and the Rage were looking to
avenge it. The Rams, however, feeling slighted by a quirk in the Division
schedule wanted to prove that they were the best in the NFC North Division.
In past seasons the SSFL Division crowns were earned through regular-season
division play. The Rams and Rage each came into Saturday night's game with
2-1 division division records. A win by the Rams would have assured them the
Division title under the old system, but this year the regular season record
only established post-season seeding, regardless of division record.
Nonetheless, both teams had something to prove.
The Rage came out strong, holding the Rams offense to "three and out" on their
opening possession then driving the ball for a quick score on a Rage QB PeeJay
Jack pass to WR Donald Orelus. Rage 7, Rams 0.
After the Rage defense caused a turnover on the ensuing Rams drive, the Rage
offense struck again on a pass from Jack to WR Theo Chatman. Rage 14, Rams 0.
The Rams then charged back on a long pass and connecting on the two-point
conversion making the score Rage 14, Rams 8. The Rage and Rams each scored again
in the first half making the score Rage 21, Rams 15 at the half.
In the second half the Rage started to pull ahead by scoring another touchdown,
but each time the Rage got some "breathing room", the Rams came back with
another score. Rage 34, Rams 22.
Finally, the Rage got the break they were looking for in the fourth quarter.
With the score Rage 34, Rams 28, the Rams were driving for the apparent tying
score, Rage DB Carlos Solomon broke on a pass by the Rams quarterback and
intercepted it and returned it deep setting up the Rage touchdown. Rage 41, Rams
28.
The Rage "Goon Squad" defense rejuvenated by the turnover and quick score then
attacked the Rams causing them to punt. With time running out on the Rams, Rage
RB Levi Raines then scampered in for the score making the score Rage 47, Rams 28
with just 10 seconds left on the clock.
Nonetheless, with the game out of reach the Rams fought to the end, taking the
ensuing kick the distance for the score. Final Score, Rage 47, Rams 34.
The Rage finished their regular season with the second best record in the SSFL
at 9 and 1, only behind the AFC East, Miami Magic City Bulls who are currently
undefeated. The Rage have a Week 12 bye, then a bye in the "Wild Card" round of
the playoffs on April 7, only to host the winner of the Rams/Generals game. Look
for the Rage's next home game on April 14, 2007, home at Showalter Field in
Winter Park as the true NFC North Division Champion will be crowned. |

PLAYOFF BERTHS BEGIN TO TAKE
SHAPE |
|
The SSFL
Playoff, known throughout the league as the 2nd SEASON, is beginning to take
shape. It truly is a new season as teams vie to continue in this
elimination tournament where "losers go home". Forget the regular season
when the playoffs begin, as new life is breathed into each team. Who can
forget the Bulls 2004 season when their regular season produced a lack luster 3
& 7 record, only to rally in the Playoffs and represent their Conference in the
Rice Bowl. In 2006 the upset of the year was the North Florida Rams
visiting the 9 &1 Gulf Coast Raiders and coming away with a resounding upset.
Seeding for the Division Championship is based on the overall record with SSFL
Tie Breaker Rules in effect. The #1 seed (established by regular-season
record) in each Division is rewarded for their success in the regular season
with with a bye week in Round I on April 7, while seeded teams 2 & 3 play each
other for the right to take on the #1 seed for the Division Championship in
Round II on April 14. The highest seeded team maintains the home field
advantage.
Round III, played on April 21, pits the Division Champions in each Conference
against each other to determine the Conference Championship and the honor
to play in the SSFL Championship Rice Bowl on May 5 in the Florida Citrus Bowl
Stadium in Orlando.
Presently, the #1 seeds have been clinched. They are the Magic City Bulls
of Miami in the AFC, American East Division; the Bradenton Gladiators in the
AFC, American West Division; the St. Petersburg Sharks in the NFC National South
Division and the Orlando Rage in the NFC, National North Division.
The SSFL 2nd Season, featuring Division, Conference and League Championships are
decided on the field of play.

Orlando, Florida
March 17, 2007
Smoke Begins to Clear
in the "Shoot Out in the North"
Dubbed the "Shoot Out in the North", the
play off positioning in the NFC North Division took its first casualty
Saturday night at Showalter Field in Winter Park, Florida. The game
pitted the reigning SSFL Champs, First Coast Generals against the 2006
NFC North Champs, Orlando Rage.
The impressive Rage defeated the Generals by a score of 40 to 14,
thereby putting the Generals in third place in the NFC North. The Rage
have to travel to Jacksonville to take on the North Florida Rams on
March 24, to determine who will be the NFC North Champs in 2007 and
garnering the coveted home field advantage in the play offs.
The Rage came out "with guns ablazing" as Rage RB and last week's Player
of the Week, Michael Rivers took the third play from scrimmage the
distance for the touchdown. The Rage then put up another touchdown when
RB Jermaine Boston crossed the goal line for the score. The Generals
under the guidance of Head Coach Joe Davis managed a score when the Rage
offense gave veteran "Field Marshall" Steve Mott the ball deep in Rage
territory. Finally, the Rage managed a last second field goal by K Matt
Field as time expired in the first half.
At the break the Rage were up 17 to 6.
In the second half the Rage never looked back as Rage RB Levi Raines
scored a touchdown and Boston and Rivers each scored another. Not to be
denied, Mott ran in a score for the Generals, but it was too little, too
late for the Generals.
The finishing touch was when Rage K Chris Boetto hit the game's final
score on a 37 yard field goal. Rage 40, Generals 14.
In the NFC South the outcome has already been determined. With the Gulf
Coast Iron Eagles ceasing football operations for the season the Sharks
clinched the division and the Polk War Eagles took second place by
default. This sets up a bye for the War Eagles and the Sharks before the
NFC South Division Championship on April 14, 2007, in St. Pete. On April
7, the Generals (NFC North #3) will travel to take on the loser of the
Rage/Rams (NFC North #2) game this weekend in the "Wild Card" round of
the play offs and the winner will receive a bye for April 7, to host the
winner of the Generals vs. Rage/Rams.

RAGE
SWEEP SHARKS
|
On Saturday night the Orlando Rage
traveled to a wet and cold St. Petersburg to face off with the St.
Petersburg Sharks at their home turf, the 31st Street Sports
Complex. The Sharks, four-time SSFL champs, are notoriously tough at
home. And as it turned out, the Sharks lived up to their legend.
The Rage got off to a quick start on the first play from scrimmage,
Rage RB Michael Rivers broke through the Shark defense and ran 75
yards for the game's first score. The Rage extra point was blocked
making the score 6 to 0.
The Sharks then scored several series later when the Sharks returner
"muffed" a punt, stumbled out of bounds then came back in and
scooped up the ball and returned it to score. Rage 6, Sharks 7.
Both teams managed to swap field goals in the second quarter and the
Sharks scored another touchdown late in the first half making the
score Rage 9, Sharks 17. Late in the second quarter the Rage offense
got the ball and managed a long drive culminating in a touchdown by
Rage QB PeeJay Jack. The Rage opted for the two-point conversion and
Jack took the ball on a bootleg right and hurdled the defender tying
the game at 17 as time expired in the half.
The "shoot out" continued in the second half as the Sharks scored
another field goal and touchdown on a long pass to the Sharks wide
receiver and a short pass on a tackle eligible play. The Rage
managed two field goals and touchdowns on another Rivers run and a
RB Levi Raines run, but the Rage missed an extra-point making the
score Rage 33, Sharks 31.
The Sharks had one last try for victory. With only seconds remaining
in the game the Sharks set up for the apparent game-winning field
goal. However the Rage "Goon Squad" defense denied the Sharks
victory when the field goal was blocked as time expired.
The Rage are off this coming week with a much-deserved bye before
hosting the NFC North rival Generals on March 17th and traveling to
the Rams for the final regular season game on March 24th. The Sharks
still have tough games against the Iron Eagles and the Generals as
well as the Spartans and the War Eagles to finish out the 2007
Regular season.

Rage to Attend
March 16, 2007, Orlando Predators Game vs. Austin Wranglers

players and Staff, Rage Management has again purchased a special block
of tickets to the Orlando Predators March 16, 2007, home game against
the Austin Wranglers and will treat the Rage to the game for FREE. Each

or games", said Rage Vice President and part-owner, Chris Morrison, who
also happens to be a season ticket holder to the Orlando Predators.

Rage Extinguish
Fire
The Orlando Rage
hosted the Fort Pierce Fire on Saturday night at Showalter Field
in downtown Winter Park. On hand for the game was Orlando Rage
"Game Day" Sponsor, US SHORING AND EQUIPMENT. US Shoring must be
good luck for the Rage as last season the US Shoring sponsored
game turned out to be a blow-out as the Rage demolished the Polk
War Eagles. This year the "US Shoring Luck" held out as the
Rage managed to seal up another victory on their quest for the
SSFL Championship.
The Rage took the opening kick off and marched the distance of the
field setting up a short touchdown run by Rage RB Levi Raines. It
looked early as though the Rage would make short work of the Fire,
but the Fire took the ensuing kick off and marched the distance
for the score, tying the game at 7 with only five minutes off of
the game clock.
The Rage offense, however, wouldn't be denied as they again moved
the ball down the field culminating in a Rage QB PeeJay Jack
touchdown pass to WR Preston McGann. The Rage defense then came
alive and held the Fire offense causing them to punt the ball
giving the Rage the ball in the shadow of their own end zone. The
Rage offense couldn't manage to move the ball causing Rage P Ryan
Hartsfield to kick the ball from the end zone. The Fire managed to
block the punt and fell on the errant ball in the end zone,
scoring another touchdown. The score was 14 to 14 at the half.
In the third quarter the Rage managed another touchdown on a run
by RB Jermaine Boston and the Fire knocked a field goal through
the uprights making the score Rage 21, Fire 17 as the fourth
quarter started and keeping the Fire in striking distance.
In the final quarter, the Rage scored yet another touchdown, this
time when Rage RB Mike Rivers scampered in and later the Rage
sealed the victory on a K Matt Field 37 yard field goal.
The Rage travel to St. Pete to take on the NFC South Division
leader Sharks this week before a much deserved bye on March 10
before hosting division-rival Generals in a "must win" game for
the NFC North crown.

RAGE BLANK WAR
EAGLES 49 to 0
On Saturday night the Orlando Rage (5-1) had a serious case of
deja vous as they returned to their 2006 and 2005 home field of Dr.
Phillips High School to play the Polk War Eagles. The "home" game was
moved to Dr. Phillips due to ongoing construction at the Rage's new home
field of Showalter Field in downtown Winter Park.
The Rage offense started slowly managing only seven points in the first
quarter on a short run by RB Levi Raines. The second quarter was another
story, however as the Rage offense hit paydirt four more times on two
touchdown passes from Rage QB PeeJay Jack to WRs Theo "Snoop" Chatman
and Preston McGann, respectively and runs by Jack and RB Jermaine
Boston. The score was 35 to 0 at the half.
Under SSFL rules once a team goes ahead by 35 or more points the
"Slaughter Rule" (continuous-running clock) goes into effect. And given
the spread at the half, the SSFL officials ran the continuous clock for
the entire second half bringing the game to an end early.
Despite the quick second half the Rage offense managed two more scores
on touchdown runs by back up quarterbacks Brad-Ley Exantus and Mike
Logue making the final score 49 to 0.
For all four quarters the Rage "Goon Squad" defense harassed the hapless
War Eagle offense shutting them out and holding them to negative yards
in total offense.
In the past two weeks the Rage has managed to put 113 points on the
scoreboard while giving up only 6. When the Week 6 Power Rankings come
out the Rage are sure to move up.

RAGE OVERWHELM
SPARTANS
On Saturday, February 10, the Orlando Rage traveled to Fort Myers to
take on the AFC West, Fort Myers Spartans. The Spartans, who make
Evangelical Christian School as their home field, were just the hosts
that the Rage needed as they hit the midpoint of the season.
The Spartans won the opening coin toss and elected to take the ball, but
the Rage "Goon Squad" Defense had something to say about that. On the
Spartans' second play from scrimmage, the Rage Defense forced a fumble
giving the Rage Offense the ball deep in Spartans' territory. Two plays
later Rage RB Levi Raines, Jr., scampered in for the score. Rage 7,
Spartans 0.
After a brief "Three and Out" the Rage Offense again had possession of
the ball at mid-field. Three plays later, Raines again hit paydirt for
his second score of three for the night. Rage 14, Spartans 0.
On their next drive the Spartans' QB, Harrison Thomas connected for a
long pass and run for their only score of the night. The ensuing extra
point was blocked. Rage 14, Spartans 6.
From that point on the Rage never looked back putting up 41 points in
the first half, including another touchdown by Raines, a touchdown
reception by back up Rage WR TJ Chatman, a Rage Defensive fumble
recovery for the score by DB Brad Locke and a touchdown pass by Rage
back-up QB Robert Lopez to reserve WR Darrel Wright. At halftime the
score was Rage 41, Spartans 6.
In the second half the hometown Spartans didn't fare any better as the
Rage put up another 23 points through another defensive touchdown and a
safety, a touchdown run by Rage RB Jermaine Boston and a final
score by Rage number four QB Mike Logue.
The second half featured valuable playing time and experience for most
of the Rage back ups and the easy victory was a blessing for the Rage
who came into the game with a 3 and 1 record. Each of the Rage's first
four games was decided by seven points or less.
Next week the Rage are home to host the NFC South, Polk War Eagles.

BIG FOURTH QUARTER
HELPS RAGE DEFEAT EAGLES
On a cold and windy night, the Orlando Rage (2-1) traveled to
Brooksville, Florida to take on the Gulf Coast Iron Eagles (2-1). The
Iron Eagles are a new team formed from the merger of the Gulf Coast
Raiders and the Hernando Eagles. This game also marked the first Rage
game that SSFL Commissioner Dave Rice attended this season. Rage
"historians" may note that the Rage had never won an away game that
commissioner Rice has attended, referring to the oddity as the "Rice
Jinx".
The Rage got off to a slow start by giving up three touchdowns in the
first half; the third of which occurred just seconds before half-time.
At half-time the score was Iron Eagles 20, Rage 7.
The second half didn't start out any better for the he RAGE as the
powerful and quick-striking Eagles' offense took the kick and drove the
ball the distance of the field for yet another score. Eagles 27, Rage 7.
It looked like the "Rice Jinx" was alive and well that night.
Finally midway through the third quarter the Rage offense got a
jump-start when it managed a long and crucial drive that culminated in a
one-yard quarterback keeper by Rage QB PeeJay Jack for the touchdown
making the score 27 to 14. But again, the Iron Eagles tried to break the
Rage's back by scoring its final touchdown of the night early in the
fourth quarter giving the Eagles a 33 to 14 lead in the final quarter.
On the Rage's next possession backed up to almost their own goal line,
Rage QB PeeJay Jack connected with Rage RB, Jermaine Boston for a 90
plus yard touchdown pass. Rage 21, Eagles 33.
The Rage defense seemed to feed off of the quick strike by the Rage
offense and pinned the Eagles deep in their own territory. On third down
and long the Eagles threw a swing pass hoping to collect a first down,
but the Rage defense sniffed it out and caused the ball-carrier to
fumble the ball. The ball was then scooped up by Rage safety, Nick
Frazier who scooted into the endzone. Rage 28, Eagles 33.
With seven minutes left in the game the Rage desperately needed another
big defensive stand and some big plays on offense. The defense again
held the Eagles' offense deep in its own territory and forced them to
punt giving the Rage good field position. The Rage drove the ball to the
Eagles' 25 yardline but was stalled and faced a fourth down and about
six yards for the first down. Rather than kick the field goal and hope
for another possession, Rage head coach Steve Casteel opted to go for it
and placed the ball in Rage RB Levi Raines' hands. Raines not only
picked up the first down, but hit paydirt. Rage 34, Eagles 33 with about
four minutes left in the game.
The Eagles managed one final drive getting the ball deep inside of Rage
territory only to be denied when Rage DT John Porter wrestled the ball
from the Eagles' ball-carrier with less than two minutes left in the
game. The Rage offense was then able to eat up the remaining ticks of
the clock to secure a victory.
After the game Commissioner Rice pointed out that three SSFL records
were broken that evening; longest pass from scrimmage for a touchdown,
longest run from scrimmage for a touchdown and largest comeback; all
noteworthy events in the SSFL. Rage WR Chris Morrison pointed out to
Commissioner Rice that another milestone was reached; the "Rice Jinx"
was over.
The Rage are on the road again this week as they travel to Fort Myers to
take on the AFC Spartans before returning home on February to host the
Polk War Eagles. The Iron Eagles will host the Polk War Eagles. A game
of note especially for the Rage is this week's match-up between the
North Florida Rams and the First Coast Generals. With a Generals win,
the Rage, Rams and Generals will be tied in the NFC North division,
whereas a Rams win would put them in the lead.

RAGE LOSE TO RAMS IN
CONFERENCE MATCH UP
The RAGE suffered their first conference loss of the 2007 season
Saturday night to the North Florida Rams by a score of 21 to 18. The
fast-striking Rams proved too powerful for the Rage. The loss by the
Rage drops them to 2 and 1 conference play and puts the Rams at 1 and 0.
Elsewhere in the NFC the First Coast Generals lost to the Eagles 36 to
20 and the Sharks defeated the War Eagles 59 to 18.
In the AFC, the Bulls continued to win by defeating the Gladiators by
the score of 31 to 17; the Millionaires beat the Spartans 48 to 7;
and the Fire beat the Reapers 41 to 29. |

Orlando, Florida
January 20, 2007
RAGE DEFENSE RULES THE DAY
The Orlando Rage opened
their 2007 NFC North Division play Saturday night in
Jacksonville against the 2006 SSFL Champs, First Coast
Generals. What started out to look like a Rage
rout of the defending champs turned out to be a
defensive struggle with the stingy Rage defense managing
a shut out.
The Rage won the coin toss
and elected to take the ball in the first half. On their
first drive the Rage easily drove the ball the length of
the field culminating in a 5 yard run for a touchdown by
Rage RB Levi Raines. However, that turned out to be the
only thing that came easily for the Rage offense that
night as experienced "Field General", head coach Joe
Davis made some adjustments and managed to keep the Rage
offense scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Likewise, the Rage defense
held the high-powered First Coast offense in check for
the entirety of the game; shutting out the Generals.
Although the only score of
the night came on the opening drive of the game, it was
by no means a boring game as there was plenty of action.
The Generals had several opportunities to score but the
Rage defense, led by S Nick Frazier's 3 interceptions,
kept them from their goal.
The Rage victory puts them
at 2 and 0 on the season, but more importantly, at 1 and
0 in the NFC North Division. The Rage return home to
Showalter Field this Saturday, January 27, to play host
to the NFC North North Florida Rams. A victory over the
Rams would put the Rage in the driver's seat for the
clinching of the division crown for the second straight
year.

Orlando, Florida
January 13, 2007
RAGE WIN OPENER IN OVERTIME
The Orlando Rage opened
their 2007 season on Saturday night in their new venue,
Showalter Field. They squared off against the four-time
SSFL Champs, St. Petersburg Sharks in what turned out to
be a nail-biter.
The Sharks took an early
lead in the first quarter on a short touchdown pass
making the score 7 to 0. On the ensuing drive the Rage
drove the ball the length of the field only to have
their drive stalled and settling for a Matt Field 38
yard field goal. Sharks 7, Rage 3.
In the second quarter the
Sharks managed to kick a field goal and the Rage scored
a touchdown on a quarterback keeper by Rage QB, PeeJay
Jack. At the half the score was tied at 10
In the third quarter both
teams managed to score touchdowns, but both missed their
extra points. Also the Rage managed another Matt Field
field goal giving the Rage a 3 point lead going into the
fourth quarter; 16 to 13.
In the final period of
regulation the Sharks got a field goal tying the game at
16. At the end of regulation play the game was tied at
16.
Overtime marked defensive
play from both teams. Neither team managed much offense,
leaving the score knotted for the majority of the extra
period. Late, with two minutes left in overtime the Rage
got the ball deep in their own territory and drove it to
midfield where the drive seemed again to stall. The Rage
were then facing a fourth down and 15 with 23 seconds
left on the clock. Opting to go for the win rather than
settle for the tie, Rage QB PeeJay Jack hit RB Levi
Raines on a long pass setting up a Matt Field field goal
with seven seconds left in overtime. Rage 22, Sharks 19.
The game was well-played and
managed by both teams and will surely go down as an "SSFL
Classic".
The Rage travel to
Jacksonville this week to take on the Division-rival and
2006 SSFL Champions, First Coast Generals and the Sharks
will play host to their Division-rival, Gulf Coast
Eagles.

SOUTHERN STATES
FOOTBALL LEAGUE BUILDS SUCCESSFUL OFFICIALS
ASSOCIATION |
The Southern States
Football League (Florida), is getting ready to kick
off their season the weekend of January 13th. The
SSFL has a staff of one hundred and ten officials.
The officials association they have built has set a
standard for excellence since its inception in 2004.
Last year they worked over 100 football games
including exhibition, regular season and post season
contests.
Overall, the SSFL Official Association courts some
of the finest officials in the state of Florida. The
appointment process is not easy as applicants are
heavily scrutinized and evaluated by the Supervisor
of Officials and his staff. Both annual and regional
training and workshops are held to assure game
officials are properly prepared to officiate games
at this level.
The SSFLOA roster has an impressive resume with
members that work on the collegiate and professional
levels. The 2006 staff had sixty-one officials from
the collegiate officiating ranks, thirteen officials
that also worked professional indoor football and
two officials that officiate NFL Europe. Officials
working in the SSFLOA represent the following
collegiate conferences:
Atlantic Coast Conference, Gulf South Conference,
Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, Southern
Independent Conference Officials Alliance,
Southeastern Conference and the Sun Belt Conference.
The Director of Officials is John Walters. A Florida
native, John Walters enters his fourth year as the
SSFLOA Supervisor of Officials . He has spent
twenty-eight years as a member of the Greater Miami
Athletic Conference. His twenty-eight years on the
high school and minor league levels have given him
great insight into evaluating and recruiting talent.
In 1997, he became the first and only supervisor the
Southern Independent Conference Officials Alliance
has ever known. The conference officiates youth,
high school, college and women's football games
state wide. He is also the Florida coordinator of
officials for the National Indoor Football League.
The Southern States Football League plays NFL rules
with a few changes:
1. Cannot celebrate while on the ground and if it
continues after a warning a penalty ensues.
2. Defenders rushing the passer must make a
conscious effort to avoid low hits. 15-yard penalty.
3. May not block in the back about the waist by
kicking team players while the ball is in flight
during a scrimmage kick.
4. Prohibited from grabbing the inside collar or the
back of the shoulder pads or jersey. Does not apply
to a runner who is in the tackle box or to a QB who
is in the pocket. Penalty-15-yards.
5. During a field goal attempt or PAT, any defensive
player with one yard off the line of scrimmage at
the snap must have his helmet outside the snappers
shoulder pad, providing protection for the snapper.
Penalty-5-yards.
6. No more than 6 players can line up on the same
side of the formation on a kickoff-preventing
overloads for on side kicks.
A real tribute to upgrading the quality of officials
in minor league football. Something other leagues
should pattern themselves from.
GOOD LUCK TO THE SSFL IN 2007!

RAGE DEFEAT PIRATES
IN EXHIBITION GAME
On December 30, 2006, the Treasure Coast Pirates of the SSFL AFC East
Division traveled to Orlando to take on the Orlando Rage in an
exhibition game. This marked the second Exhibition Game played by the
2007 Edition of the Pirates and the first for the Rage.
The Rage took the opening kick off and drove the distance of the field
culminating in a five yard run by Rage QB, PeeJay Jack for the
touchdown. On the ensuing possession by the Pirates the Rage defense
held strong, requiring the Pirates to punt. The Rage starters then drove
the ball to inside the Pirates' "red-zone" where the Pirates' defense
halted the drive, causing the Rage to kick a field goal making the score
10 to 0.
The Rage back-up offense then managed a number of drives ending with a
touchdown run by the Rage shortly before the expiration of the half.
Rage 16, Pirates 0.
The second half was highlighted by a long punt return by Rage returner,
Byron Shaw for a touchdown, a quarterback keeper by Rage back-up
QB, Brad-Ley Exantus for a 45 yard touchdown run and another touchdown
by Rage RB, Levi Raines.
Overall, it was a good showing for the 2007 Rage with the stingy Rage
Defense holding the Pirates scoreless, the Offense putting up four
touchdowns and the Special Teams accounting for a field goal and a punt
return for a touchdown. |
