Courtney, a quiet "talker" and a loud hitter signed on
with the Rage for 2011 as a Wide Receiver. Working out
on the offensive side of the ball he impressed the staff
early, but with receivers like Kelley, McGann, Pitman,
Chatman and others getting the ball in the hands of
Courtney would be a task.
Meanwhile, coach Ike Wilson was required to retool his
defensive backfield due to injury to Larry Preston and
the departure of Roger Sippio, Jeremy Lowery and Carlos
Solomon.
Courtney was the perfect fit and gladly stepped over to
the defense and immediately put his skills to work
garnering the starting safety position.
Courtney was able to amass over 30 tackles and 3
interceptions on the year. It's Courtney's quiet
leadership and solid performance that makes him ORLANDO
RAGE DEFENSIVE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR. |
Rashad came to the Rage for the 2011 season as a
"rookie" in name only-having played college ball at
North Greenville University before making his way to the
Buffalo Bills' training camp roster.
Rashad came to the Rage the year after Levi Raines-FFA
League MVP-left the Rage to play professional football,
but the Rage backfield was stacked with returners
Jermaine Boston, Raishard Slater and Michael Rivers.
Patiently, Rashad waited for his opportunities. And the
patience paid off for Rashad AND the Rage. Rashad
became the Rage's leading rusher averaging over ten
yards per carry and numerous receptions.
The League took notice too, naming Rashad "Player of the
Week" for week 10 when he rushed for 153 yards on only 6
carries.
